CDF’2008: Tarpons auf Curaçao

Einfache Tauchbedingungen, karibisches Flair und fantastische Korallenlandschaft, aber es gibt keine Tarpons – einer der klassischen karibischen Großfische – auf Curacao. Doch. Denn auch wenn vielerorts auf der Insel behauptet wird, es gäbe keine Tarpons – Scuba Do bietet einen lohnenswerten Tarpontauchgang an. Alles über den Tauchplatz Tarpo City in diesem Bericht.

Scuba Do Adventures

Nachdem wir auf der Westseite der Insel erfahren haben, dass Tarponsichtungen auf Curacao eher die Ausnahme sind, waren wir überrascht, dass Scuba Do den Tarpontauchgang "Tarpon City" regelmäßig anbietet. Hierbei handelt es sich um einen relativ flachen Tauchplatz direkt am Eingang des Hafenbeckens von Willhemstad, der vom Ufer aus betaucht wird. Da dort oft starke Strömung herrscht, besteht der Anbieter auf die Benutzung von Scootern – die sich dann beim Rein- und Raustauchen auch als bequem erweisen. Das Tauchcenter verfügt momentan über 4 Scooter, also einer für den Guide und 3 für die Gäste. Kleine Gruppen sind somit garantiert.

Der Einstieg ist an einem kleinen Steg. Nach dem Durchschwimmen der Lagune wird nach circa 2 Minuten am Drop Off abgetaucht. Danach geht es einfach mit dem Scooter an der interessanten und Fischreichen Riffkante entlang. Hier sahen wir neben schönem Bewuchs große Makrelen, Fischschulen und auch eine Schildkröte. Leider auch relativ viele Fischreusen – wohl weil es hier so viel Fisch gibt.

Nach 10 Minuten unterhaltsamer Scooterfahrt erreicht man einen Großen Metallpfahl, der den Eingang des Hafenkanals markiert. Sofort sehen wir circa 3 Tarpone und 2 große Barrakudas. Auf diesem Plateau spielt sich nun der ganze Tauchgang ab ... wenn der erste Taucher auf 100 bar ist oder nach circa 45 Minuten, geht es auf den Rückweg. Bei uns war es dann etwas länger und unser armer Guide musste doch sehr frieren. Insgesamt sahen wir um die 5 Tarpone – scheinbar sind es aber oft deutlich mehr. Schon das Riff allein ist ein sehr lohnensweter Tauchgang – dazu kommen dann noch die Tarpone und der Ritt auf dem Scooter. Zusammen mit Guide, Scooter und Transfer kostet der Tauchgang circa 70 $. Ein definitives Must Do für Scuba Do's Tarpon City Scooter-Ride!
