CDF’2008: Tauchen mit Seelöwen vom Sea Aquarium

Die Leute sagen oft, dass es keinen Großfisch auf Curacau gibt, aber das stimmt nur zum Teil. Wer dachte, dass Tarpons cool sind , der sollte mit den Seelöwen bei Animal Encounters im Sea Aquarium Curacao tauchen. Heute hatten wir einen wundervollen Tauchgang mit der 6-jährigen Seelöwen-Lady Camilla. Klickt hier für die Bilder dieses einmaligen Erlebnisses.

Andis erster Vortrag auf der Insel war im Sea Aquarium Curacao, wo es neben klassischen Aquarium auch Seelöwen, Delphine und weitere interessante Meeresbewohner zu sehen gibt. Wie sehr oft sieht man das mit gemischten Gefühlen. Aber als wir die Anlage mit eigenen Augen gesehen und uns mit dem Seelöwen Trainer Jonathan unterhalten hatten, waren wir überzeugt, dass artgerechte Haltung hier gross geschrieben wird. Und so haben wir das Angebot einen Tauchgang mit den Seelöwen zu machen natürlich nicht ausgeschlagen. Diese werden von der integrierten Tauchbasis Animal Encounters organisiert.

Der Tauchgang läuft so ab, dass die Taucher, nach dem Briefing durch den Seelöwentrainer, gemeinsam mit einem Fotografen, das Hausriff vor dem Aquarium betauchen. Der Seelöwentrainer kommt dann durch einen separaten Ausgang mit dem Seelöwen dazu. Während dem Tauchgang hat der Trainer immer wieder Leckerlis für den Seelöwen, die dieser dankend annimmt. zwischen den Snacks schwamm "Camilla" stets zwischen den Tauchern hindurch – und wenn jemand die Hand ausstreckt, schmiegte sie sich sofort an. Ein wirklich sehr schönes Erlebnis. Aber der Trainer versicherte uns, dass sie es gerne macht. Auch wenn es keine Taucher gibt, nimmt er die Seelöwen jeden Tag fürs "Gassi gehen" ans Riff. Und wenn ein Seelöw mal nicht raus will, dann wird er auch nicht gezwungen.

Den Tauchgang kann man entweder direkt bei Animal Encounters im Sea Aquarium buchen, oder auch bei den Ocean Encounters Tauchbasen auf Curacao, die diesen Tauchgang ebenfalls anbieten. Zum Beispiel im Lions Dive im Breezes. Auf jeden Fall ein lohnenswerter Tauchgang, der überhaupt keinen negativen Beigeschmack von Dressur vermittelt, sondern eher wie ein Spaziergang mit einem Hund rüberkommt.
