Sony just announced the HDR-CX12. This new camcorder will be released in August and will combine face detection and smile shutter detection. This new function can take video and still at the same time – and the shutter releases automatically in the moment somebody smiles. Not really useful for diving, but still a nice feature.
New housings for Panasonic camcorder from Sealux
Sealux just announced two new underwater housings for the Panasonic HDC-HS9 EG and the Panasonic HDC-SD9 EG camcorder. Both underwater housings are custom-made aluminium housing which have a depth rating to 90m. For shots without a lighting system an internal filter can be used. The new developed infrared control IR 10 enables not only the basic functions like record, zoom and photo, but also the complete operation of the joystick navigation. That allows to operate important functions needed for underwater usage like white balance, IRIS, shutter speed and several more functions and this without any cable needed. There are no movable parts in the housing anymore through the introduction of the infrared control.
Hugyfot HFC-40D Housing Review
Panama means 'abundance of fish' in the indigenous language of one of the Indian tribes. In Coiba this is obviously the case. But due to a minor sight at times, the fish is not always clearly visible. Coiba is the largest island of Panama and consists mainly of ancient tropical rainforest. The Canon 40D is my companion on this trip to Coiba. The underwater housing that will take the Canon EOS 40D underwater is the Hugyfot HFC 40D.

Remark: There are/is only Canon announces EOS 1000D / Rebel XS
„It does not get better but you can have it cheaper!“ according to this motto Canon has announced the EOS 1000D digital slr camera today. Overseas it also carries the name Rebel XS or Kiss F. This indicates that the 1000D is not the highly anticipated successor of the Canon EOS 5D. Instead Canon has launched a new price-breaker with 10 Megapixels and LiveView. Canon intends to position this product right under the recently introduced EOS 450D. Compared to that model an even lower price might be possible by just offering a 2.5” display, while 3.0” have become a standard. If some manufacturers of underwater housings will plan another product or if existing housings might already fit for this model you may discuss in our forums. At a first glimpse we can only say that the dimension of the camera body look promising.
LANC-Adapter for Sony 10pin Connector
The German company HGTV Videotechnik GmbH announces the availability of a new LANC Adapter for all Sony Camcorders. With this adapter "older" LANC control boards in existing underwater housings can be connected to the new socket on recent Sony Camcorders. This connector is also named AV/R or 10pin cable. Sony decided on newer models such as the SR12 to bridge the Video-Out and LANC/Remote signal in one 10pin cable. The adapter has a 2.5mm LANC-In socket and a 3.5mm Video-In socket on one side. The other side is equipped with a 10pin Sony Video-Out/Remote cable. The adapter is available at 99 EUR including 19% German sales tax and may be purchased from the HGTV website.
