British Underwater Image Festival Countdown

The British Underwater Image Festival is being held at the Go Diving! show at Birmingham's NEC on 14-16 March 2008.

The British Society of Underwater Photographers (BSoUP) co-founder Colin Doeg will be heading this years judging panels. Stills images will be judged by highly acclaimed underwater photographers Alex Mustard, DIVE's editor Simon Rogerson and DIVE's senior correspondent and award winning photographer Charles Hood. The winners and runners up in the film categories will be chosen by the BBC Blue Planet and Planet Earth film-maker Peter Scoones, DIVE's editor Simon Rogerson and DIVE's designer Aynia Noever.

THE SUUNTO OPEN CATEGORY

RULES FOR PRINT STILLS


  • Maximum of six prints per entrant per category (Suunto Open, PADI Digital and Scubapro Young Photographer).
  • Maximum of one entry per person for the portfolio category.
  • There is no entry fee
  • Prints must be 10 inches x 7 inches or 10 inches x 8 inches with a border of at least 3mm on each edge, and will be mounted by DIVE
  • Portfolios must be six 5 inches x 7 inches with a border of at least 3mm on each edge, accompanied by a guide showing in which order they should be viewed, with three images on top and three on the bottom - again, they will be mounted by DIVE
  • All prints must be labeled on the reverse with photographer's name, category, where the picture was taken and equipment used.

RULES FOR VIDEO


  • All submissions must be PAL format on DVD
  • Films must have been shot or broadcast during 2006/7
  • The six finalists' films will be shown throughout the show on Friday and Saturday, interspersing documentaries with shorts
  • Judging will take place in advance of the Go Diving! show and the decision of the judges will be final.

Boot Show 2008 - An Exhibition Guide

Boot Show 2008 - A Guide Between the 19.-27. January the doors of the exhibition halls in Düsseldorf will be opened for Europas largest water spLocation exhibition. More than 1.600 exhibitors from more than 50 countries will present their newest products on the 39. International Boot Show to the interested audience. The 300 exhibitors for diving equipment and related products can be found in exhibition hall 3 as every year. Last Minute Call: WP/DPG competition 2008


---------------- OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE ----------------
Photographers & videographers will compete in seven still-image categories and two video categories, to win more than $50,000 in prizes including premium dive travel, underwater photo/video and diving equipment and more! Dive packages include trips to some of the top photo destinations in the world, including Socoros Islands, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Red Sea, Grand Cayman, the Solomon Islands and Vietnam! Other prizes include camera housings, strobes, lighting systems, and other valuable items. The competition includes a category for images that focus on conservation and the marine environment, and one specifically for entries taken by compact digital cameras.

Judges include leading professional underwater photographers, cinematographers and editors: Eric Cheng, Berkley White, Tony Wu, Ric Frazier, Chuck Nicklin. and Mary Lynn Price.

Winning images will be published by supporting media partners worldwide, and Divefilm.com will be podcasting the winning videos as episodes of the iTunes-featured DiveFilm Podcast Video and DiveFilm High Definition Podcast Video.

As with all Wetpixel & DivePhotoGuide events, 15% of proceeds will be donated to marine conservation efforts.

SanDisk RedSea 2007 - Report & Results

SanDisk Red Sea 2007 World of The SanDisk Red Sea 2007 Competition took place last week, on the 12th-17th of November, in Eilat, Israel. Over one hundred and twenty underwater photographers from all over the world, including Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Swiss, Argentina, Costa Rica, Israel and more, arrived to Eilat especially to attend this prestigious event.

Contest participant Sharon Rainis was kind enough to do a complete write-up of the event which we are pleased to share with you. Also many thanks to Razi Livnat for doing some live-coverage photos and the organizer David "Pilo" Pilosov, who delivered the results and winning images so promptly. Antibes 2007: BS Kinetics underwater housings

BS Kinetics GmbH

Bs Kinetics underwater housings presented two reference housings for photo and video during the Antibes Festival. With them was SONY’s Alpha DSLR -not the latest model A700 though but the predecessor A100. It is considered to design also an underwater housing for the A700, but demand for that model still needs to be evaluated, we were told.

Antibes 2007: Hugyfot Nikon D300 (ready!)

HUGYFOT D300 Gehäuse

As previously announced a few weeks ago, the manufacturer of underwater housings entitled HUGYFOT was able to present a ready-2-dive underwater housing for the Nikon D300 (developed at light-speed) during the Antibes Festival. The new housing also has some interesting new details which we were able to capture in pictures.
