Absolutely Awesome!
I'm an amateur, and this is the first digital camera I've ever owned, although I've used others before it. And I must say, it is just about perfect. Very user-friendly, and has lots of preset options for a beginner or novice photographer (experts will want more manual control which this baby doesn't provide).
I have no complaints about it, only a fair warning that using the adaptive lighting option in low light conditions will make the images rather noisy. Buy this, and don't forget to buy extra storage to go with it. I recommend Kingston 256MB SD card or similar, which will allow you to store over 50 pictures in 5MP.
One of the best things about this camera is that you can record in video mode for as long as you want, until the storage is filled up. Suggestion to the manufacturer: webcam features would make this gadget one to die for (almost)!

Great camera - great price
I just got this camera over the weekend and could not believe how easy to use this was right out of the box. I have never owned a digital camera before this one. I opened the box and powered up the camera and after turning the menu on and looking over the buttons , was snapping away without ever looking at the instruction book. After about two hours of playing/familiarizing myself with the camera, I did sit down and read the manual.
The camera/docking port is so easy to use and the hp software is so easy to use. Instant share is wonderful. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend this camera to anyone who wants great pictures and lots of features for a budget price.

Fantastic
Ok I am in love!!! I have played around with it awhile and have found a few ways to make this thing work wonders. 1.) You can turn on the little screen by pressing the camera button and take pictures the old fashion way. This saves SO MUCH battery its ridiculous. I just use the screen when I need to. 2.) There are many pictures that I dont plan to share or enlarge so I took those under 1 megapixel, better ones with 3 mega pix and the best ones only with 5 mega pix. I did this and have a 512 MB memory so I have over 600 pictures. Also I bought the camera warranty directly on www.HP.com its cool to buy the camera whereever. I got the 2 year accidental damage warranty cover accidents and shipping to replace it!! Uploading to computer is easy and the camera takes pictures like a dream. Easy delete and playback. I am so glad I bought it!

Great in low light
After reading through a few other reviews I thought I'd mention something I haven't noticed anyone else talking about with the R707. I've owned mine for a couple months now, and put it through its paces on a recent tour of Europe. I used the camera in many cathedrals and such, where flash photography is inappropriate. However, when the camera is held perfectly steady (such as rested somewhere or on a tripod), it can take some absolutely incredible low-light pictures without flash. It uses long exposures - my longest was 8 seconds - but the results can be outstanding. Using the flash in low-light changes the picture considerably, tending to hide the background and mute colors even with adaptive lighting, but if the camera can remain steady, I noticed virtually no problems with focusing and consistently got crisp, clear, even vivid pictures after 3- to 4-second exposures on average without flash. The camera is more sensitive to movement while taking low-light pictures, even with flash. This can make it appear to have trouble focusing when it is simply motion blurring a bit. And on rare occasions the camera can't find a focal object, you can still manually focus for clear pictures.
I could go on about this camera, but most of the rest I'd have to say has been said in other reviews. It is definitely a worthy purchase for amateur photographers, although people seriously into photography may find even the many manual options such as control over F-stop this camera has to be insufficient. The camera does have its shortcomings, as does every consumer digital camera I've seen so far, but I'd definitely place it among the top.

Very happy with this camera.
I don't want to repeat things that others have said. But I must say this is a very well designed and usable camera. I have taken some wonderful pictures with it, and I am very very happy that I bought it.

HP makes good cameras!
Easy to use, nice and solid body design, great picture quality, long long battery life, just can't say enough about it... Most importantly, no other major brands in the same price region can beat it! In other words, you will have to pay $100 more for a canon/sony/olympus with the same quality/function. HP rocks!

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE
Warning! Pray nothing happens to your camera outside the warranty period. HP customer service is non-existent! The only repair service you will get is high-pressure to buy an "upgrade" or replacement. They will not try to repair anything. You are warned!

A good little camera that is easy to use!
I took my time reviewing a number of different cameras, both online and live before settling on this one. One of the deciding factors for me was the small form-factor and ease of use. I have taken hundreds of shots with it, at varying resolutions, and have had most of them turn out great, (the few that did not were more due to a poor-quality user than the camera!) The only 'complaint' I really have is that the camera stand mount is located off-center, so it makes doing panaramic shots a little tough to accomplish seamlessly, (and the mount seems to be made of plastic, which can wear quickly. Other than that, I give this two thumbs up! You should get a lot of use out of it, and enjoy yourself to boot!

Awesome Camera
I got this camera for Christmas after a lot of research. I am so happy I decided on the hp R707. I love it. It takes amazing photos. I just took pictures at a zoo and they came out amazing, like professionals. Even using the digital zoom, the pictures come out so clear and strong. I especially like how the camera adjusts for the lighting in the room. It makes a picture perfect if you are in a dark room. Taking pictures at Christmas, my uncle was amazed by how light the pictures looked. I can not say enough good things about this camera. I definetely recommend it to anyone looking to buy an exceptional easy to use digital camera.

Outstanding camera
I ordered this camera not long ago and I love it. HP Photosmart R707 has amazing features, that work as well as they say they do. It takes crisp, high quality photos that look great! I will never regret purchasing this lovely little camera.

Fabulous camera!
I read all the reviews off amazon and researched on eopinions before I jumped into this purchase. I have nothing but success with this camera. If you can work a cell phone, you can pull this camera out of the box and start using it. The menu is super easy to read, the placement of the buttons is easy to navigate with my long clumsy fingers. I have an Olympus Stylus and the HP takes pictures 100 times better. I purchased the 1gb memory card and I can take about 680 pictures and an hour of video. The video is a nice feature - I have used it a little here and there. This is by no means a videocamera, but its a feature that is nice to have. I would whole-heartedly recommend this camera to anyone. I feel that it was worth the price, especially with all the extras like the red eye reduction, panoramic, and other options.

Powerful
A lot of power in a small package. Love this camera. The zoom is powerful and the panaroma feature works great. Camera is easy to use all the buttons in the right place. Easy to download with or without the dock. Just a lot of camera for the price and size.

HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera
It is a great camera and it is easy to use. Downloading on the computer is a snap. This is the best brand of camera to go with any computer. Even my children can use this camera with ease.

You get what you pay
I got this from comp usa (...) i think its a pretty good deal for its price...although i wanted something smaller than this also..i know that they cost much more though...the picture quality i would give it like a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. In all i think (...) this is really good.

Nice pictures, but. . .
This is a great entry level camera that is easy to use and takes nice pics, but there are a couple of slight flaws that might make you consider another model. When you look through the viewfinder, the lens is visible and partly obscures your view. Also the LCD at l.5" is small. It is also a rather delicate camera and should it get the least be wet, the lcd screen will malfunction.

Great Camera for Great Price!!!
I bought this camera on black friday of 05'. For what I paid, around $130, new, it was fricken' great!!! Gives better resolution than my families other D-Cameras, had more features, and is overall more user-friendly than my siblings' kodak and olympus cameras. Also has that stylish brushed steel look. The only drawback is the LCD screen is a little small, viewfinder slot is a little strange to use. It makes an uncomfortable bulge in your pocket. Also sometimes takes awhile to display pics on the LCD after it snaps a shot. Other than that, I recommend it!

Camera great, software comes up short
I have thoroughly enjoyed my R707 camera. It is easy to use, zooms in well, photos are clear and easy to edit. The complaint I have is that when I hook my dock and camera up to a TV, the photos are distorted to the point of being unable to see them. I have hooked it up to small and large screen TVs with the same result. The other thing I find annoying is that it requires some work to burn photos to CD. Sure, HP Memories Disc Creator is wonderful and easy, but it creates such huge directories, that if you want to take the CD to have prints made, it is nearly impossible. That leaves you with the option of pulling each photo up individually, editing, saving them one at a time in another folder, then burning that folder to a CD. There must be an easier way!! I am currently looking for software that will supersede the HP software so I don't have to waste time with it. But I love the camera!!

When it works, it's great!
I have used this camera constantly, taking 20 pictures a day. Picture quality has been great. The controls are easy to use. Battery life is OK. But my camera no longer works. It is only fifteen months old, and I had to return it for repairs three times in the first twelve months. HP has been very helpful, getting the new camera to me the next day.
However, it is no longer under warranty. HP is offering no chocies for service now that the camera is out of warranty. I can upgrade to another camera if I return my current camera. [...]

Very satisfied
I've taken hundreds of beautiful, sharp, colorful pictures with this camera and it's still going strong. With the R-series dock, there are no batteries to buy. In 2 years we've replaced the rechargeable battery once. It's small and light. I take it everywhere and have great momentos.

Guarantee stinks!
The camera worked great, while it worked. Then, 6 month after purchase it froze when the SD card was inserted. After I contacted their customer service (within guarantee period), they kept beating around the bush with all sort of questions, suggestions and instructions until the guarantee was over. Then they told me to contact the purchase department, which after another 3 months beating around the bush, told me that guarantee was expired a that there was "nothing they could do". Result: I have a lemon (rather, had, I threw the thing away!) and am stuck with it, and they refuse to honor guarantee on procedure instead of standing behind their product. In other words I lost my money including investment in socket and all the paraphernalia. Never again HP for me!
