I bought this camera for a graduation present for my daughter. I didn't want to spend too much on something that I knew would be bumped around and generally not given much care. I'm sorry to say that I didn't purchase it from Amazon because the price is substantially lower on Amazon compared to what I paid elsewhere.

In six weeks this camera has traveled over 3,000 miles and taken approximately 500 pictures. I am really amazed at the quality and the clarity of the pictures. We purchased another digital camera last year and paid a great deal more for it. Yet this little Kodak takes pictures that are almost as good.

If you are looking for gift ideas for kids, this is a great item. The cost is reasonable, the camera is durable, and the picture quality is good.

Takes good clear pics with nice bright colors, very simple to use, great for beginners. I feel it couldnt get any better for under $100.

The C300 has all the base requirements of a point and shoot 3MP digital camera. It is my first digital camera and I now understand what I need ... vs. what I used to want.

1.) A lens cover is a need - I had planned for this camera to be the one I grab on the run when off for a w/e or short flights around the coast. This one has no lens cover and I think it will attract scratches, it doesn't recess and is readily exposed. Trade off in cheap at 99 bucks will be partially spent for a decent cam case.

2.) More internal memory - an every person complaint, true ... but the 16 mg internal turns out to be around 17 or 18 pics. On your first day of tweaking and playing, it turns out limited. I don't know if 17 pics is about expected on best level, but 32 mg would have given a person a decent roll of captures if there isn't an internal memory problem.

3.) no optical zoom

Otherwise a fairly priced camera, I would recommend spending 50 bucks more and buying a camera with a lens cover and optical zoom. But it works fine for the random, casual user. It is dumb and dumber out the box - setup is easy, and the owner's manual instructions are short and clear.

One suggestion: I did find that using the fill setting instead of auto flash gave been much better results. It is especially noticable in partial sun evening shots. The auto flash actually is harsh in all settings to me, but maybe I haven't found the right situation that shows off any need.

And battery life is better than the horror stories I have read about with other cheap digital cameras.

It could have been a 3 star rating, but for under 100 bucks, this camera is better than most.

I love digital cameras and have many.
the Kodak C300 uses the Kodak color science chip which looks at the raw picture you just snapped and at great speed makes everything perfect before it is put in the memory of the camera.so you cant have blurry pictures.You simply frame the picture and click, right away the green light blinks a few seconds and the chip has done its work
you can take 3 pictures in a row, which means action pictures and they are so clear!
it loads down to the computer very fast and the new software is very good. this will be a big winner I think.
it does not need a cap on its lens because a glass is over it to protect it !

While price is attractive and features are decent for the price, reliability is an issue. It stopped working on the second day of our vacation, which was very inconvenient to say the least.

Back to the store it went.

I was the owner of another 3megapixel digital camera for several YEARS and thousands of pictures until the shutter button broke. Instead of paying the price for a new shutter button we thought, why not just put the money toward a new camera since these days you can get a 3 megapixel camera for a much lower price than you could when I bought my original camera.

I am so very, very unhappy with this camera after 2 days of trying to make it take good pictures. (My original was similarly a 3.2 Megapixel camera). Oh I am so unhappy. Many of the pictures look grainy, the flash is so bright that it makes the backgrounds really dark (I often like to take pictures that INCLUDE the background, but with this camera I haven't been able to find a way to stop it from focusing brightly only on the forefront. I am also not seeing the bright crisp colors I expected from Kodak cameras. This just doesn't compare to my other camera and I am very unhappy.

I guess at $80 you get what you pay for and $80 does not a wonderful digital camera make, yet. I want to return this camera. I expected it to be more like the old Kodak DX3700/DX3900 models, which I heard many good things about.

I guess if you just want to spend as little as possible and aren't worried about having extremely good quality pictures, this camera will be an okay camera for you for the money. You probably can't do any better for the money. But this camera has some issues for this mommy who wants to take the best pictures of her baby. And by the way, no, I don't expect $500-camera quality in an $80-camera. But I'm afraid this camera just isn't cutting it and I secretly wish to return it, but alas, it was a gift. I am really aggravated at how grainy some of the pictures look. I wouldn't think a 3 megapixel or more camera would look this way. grrrr.

I bought this camera for my daughter's birthday and I like it so well that I may get my own. It is very easy to use, takes clear quality pictures and the software that comes with it makes downloading onto your PC a snap. Excellent value for your money.

This is a great little starter camera. VERY easy to use, especially when coupled with the Kodak Easyshare camera dock (I got the series 3). The software is foolproof and the tutorials teach you how to use the camera in a matter of minutes. Best of all, the camera, dock and memory card were less than $175 total. For a novice photographer who didn't want to spend much money, I don't see how I could have done any better than this.

I've bought many items from Amazon and was a satisfied customer until now. This pathetic piece of junk is beyond entry-level. It lacks the most basic features--such as optical zoom. Although it has a digital zoom (which is less sharp and therefore inferior to optical zoom) it also lacks a separate zoom control. Instead you must use menu buttons to control the zoom. The miniscule display also makes framing shots difficult. And the camera has only three shooting modes: auto, night, and movie mode. Obviously, Kodak cut every possible corner for this rubbish. Save your money and buy something you'll actually want to use.

The Kodak EasyShare C300 has the basic requirements for a point and shoot digital camera. The camera lacks internal memory. You can only store about 15 pictures on the internal drive. The camera also lacks a lens cover which can cause scratches if you do not take good care of it. I would recommend buying a carrying case to avoid this problem. This requires the need to purchase a memory card right away. Another upset is it has no optical zoom. This camera is a great camera for the person who is just starting out with a digital. I think that its great for young teenagers and college students who don't have the money to spend on a more elaborate one. It is more for the casual user.
For the money that it costs to purchase it is a pretty good buy

This camera has all the function I need. It has built in memory and a slot for additonal SD memory card. It can take both picture and movie. It is easy to use and take good pictures.

I was looking for a small, good, easy to use camera and I found it with this Kodak EasyShare C300.
If I had one complaint, it is that I wanted something a bit more compact, and this camera is not compact, it is a pretty fat, and weighty camera.
I used it right out of the box. It came with rechargable batteries and I bought the docking station so the camera and recharge. And it recharges quickly.
I am impressed by the ease of use of the camera. Without even opening the instruction book I figured out the menu easily.
The software is nice and easy to use. Camera really is easy to share.

Is the video part suppose to have sound? This is a gift order that hasnt come in yet, and im already hearing complaints. I just want to know what Im getting into.

We purchased 2 of these cameras for our young kids as their first digital cameras. Our kids have enjoyed snapping lots of pictures and movies, especially since this camera is easy to use. Our seven year olds quickly learned what all the buttons do and the pictures have come out very good for the price. The pictures look much better on the computer than they do on the LCD display on the camera. Rechargeable batteries are a must.

I am SO disappointed with this Camera I wish I had never bought it! I've had the Camera all of 2 months and I've taken all of 25 photos ( Half of them had to be deleted because of poor quality). And here's the kicker, now the Camera won't even work! Something internally has gone wrong! Camera and Batteries both heat up to the point where you can't hold them. Don't WASTE you're money on this POOR quality 3.2mp camera!

I bought this camera for my daughter for her 10th birthday. She loved it but the biggest surprise has been how much I like it too. This may be the most inexpensive digital camera around but the clarity of the pictures has amazed me.

A couple of tips for other novice buyers: a digital zoom is not a zoom lens! It just means you can zoom in when viewing the picture on the screen. If you like the flexibility of a zoom lens, consider buying a slightly more expensive camera. And, of course, you'll have to buy a memory chip to slot into this camera as the internal memory only holds 16 shots. It's a rip off that seems to be practised by all the camera manufacturers. The memory chip I bought increases storage to 153 photos which will do most normal users for a long time.

We had one initial problem when the computer software provided wouldn't load onto my iMac due to the old version of OSX I am using. However, I then discovered that I could simply plug the camera in to the USB port (1.0 not 2.0) and they downloaded in seconds! I just use Preview to view them which isn't ideal but no doubt the software will be fine when I get around to upgrading my computer.

We did not own a digital camera before this. I have to say I am now completely converted to the benefits of digital photography and planning on buying one of my own.

The pictures are extremely blurry. I am not saying that it lacks the detail of a more expensive camera. I'm saying you cannot distinguish one person from another. One of those disposable cameras for under $10 takes a picture that is a thousand times more clear. All it creates is one big incomprehensible blurr. The 800-number support line is worthless. Just irrelevant recordings. The Kodak website has EasyShare-One which is not the same camera, but I cannot find any info on this EasyShare C300. The software won't work on our Macintosh. I guess next time we'll just buy a Japanese camera.

It's a fixed-focus camera, which means that objects will be in focus only if they're exactly the right distance from the camera. Fixed-focus cameras are...well, they're better than asking a toddler to draw you a picture of the scene, but that's about all I can say in their favor. Kodak should be ashamed to put their name on this thing.

4 stars for this one, because it doesn't have zoom (just digital zoom). But is great for real state agents who keep taking pictures just to show them to customers or maybe just to start on digital photo world, which is great.

I can't review this product from personal experience, because I bought it as a gift for my 80-year-old mother (who is surprisingly computer-capable considering her age). She wanted to experiment with a digital camera, and wanted a really cheap one. This certainly isn't the cheapest camera out there, but I hoped that if I paid a little more, she would end up with a camera that was truly easy to use.

Unfortunately, she has been having a lot of trouble using the "EasyShare" software. It certainly isn't intuitive, and since they designed it to be "cute" and "friendly", and not like a typical Windows application, I am having trouble helping her with it via long-distance phone calls.

If you are looking for a cheap but reliable digital camera, this is what you need. It doesn't have a lot of features, which makes it perfect for my 3 year old. The pictures are grainy, yes, but considering that her fingers are in every shot, it doesn't matter. It's easy for her to operate. The only problem she has is keeping her fingers out of the way of the lens. Battery life is so-so. She's taken at least 50 pics and the battery indicator now is saying low. It's been in operation for about 3 days. I own a Sony DSC-F828 and it would last longer, but not much. Yes, I probably need to invest in rechargables. That might help. I bought the KidzCam and it was a big let down. My daughter can see the pics she took and has a lot of fun with the Kodak. Perfect for the younger crowd that wants to experiment. The software that comes with allows for easy transfering. Don't get me wrong...this is NOT a camera for your family reunion or graduation. The pics are not the best for family albums. Just a fun camera.

The camera stopped working after 1 week. The camera would not even turn on. Kodak customer service was very difficult to work with. They made me buy rechargeable batteries to test the camera - something that shouldn't be required. Then, I had to pay my own shipping to mail the camera in for repair. After several weeks, I am still waiting for the camera to be returned. A part has to be ordered. For a low-end camera, you would think Kodak would have just sent me a replacement.

The camera was for my 10-year old. It was easy to use and seemed fine during the time she had it. We didn't do anything unusual to cause the failure. I am most dissatisfied with the Kodak customer support.

I recieved this gift for Christmas this year. After two months of use and over 700 pictures taken, I can't tell you how wonderful this camera is. i like the camera the only thing i was a bit disappointed in is the amount of pictures it could hold 17 in all. i expected at least 25 could have been stored. i guess i;ll have to by more memory.

It's a good price for the picture quality, but you might want to spend more to get a slightly better camera.


Good stuff:

If you want a digital camera for convenience, but were otherwise happy with a cheap 35mm camera just for 5x7 prints or smaller, this is probably the best deal.

Overall picture quality is better than most digital cameras under $100, so it's the best way to go if you want a cheap digital camera.

It's also very simple. If you want "easy-to-use," this is as easy as it gets. There aren't any complicated options, and almost everything is automated "behind the scene" so you don't have to think about it.


Bad stuff:

Slow shutter response. Compared to film cameras, most digital cameras of any reasonable price have a slight delay between clicking the button and the actual picture being captured, which can cause you to miss some shots. This camera is about typical for the price range, but you can get a lot better if you move up to a better camera.

Digital zoom only. Digital zoom is not really a zoom at all, but an enlargement of a small area on the sensor inside the camera. You can "zoom," but picture quality degrades in the same proportion. For the price, almost no camera has real optical zoom, so this is average.

No close-up ability. The focus range is fixed, which actually works out OK for small prints, but anything closer than about 3 feet will look blurry. A lot of cheap cameras have a "macro" switch to allow better close shots, so this camera is actually behind the pack on this.

No lense protection at all. There is a plastic window, but it isn't protected either and if it get's dirty or scratched it's still a problem. Many cheaper cameras have a sliding lense cover.


Other options:

It's a good deal if you want a camera for this price, but for $40-50 more, you can get a Sony or Canon that resolves or greatly improves all of these problems. You might want to look at a Sony s40, Canon a410, or whichever models are current when you read this.

Don't worry too much about "easy-to-use." Any digital camera in a similar price range will have an auto mode, which means all you have to do is click the shutter button and it figures everything out on its own just like this Kodak does. The simpler menu is still appealing if you don't want extra options, but other cameras won't be hard to use.


Some other reviews mention the low included memory. This is true of ALL digital cameras. Most only have enough built-in memory for about 10 pictures, so plan on buying a $15-25 card no matter which camera you buy.

I use this camera almost every day...its great! theres so much stuff you can do to it. The person that said only 17 pictures..you must have it set to best quality and BIGGEST SIZE if you turn the size down then it can hold more pictures and once you get them on the computer you can always make them bigger anyway. Also, I love the little program it comes with. I dont use it much (i have better programs) but its great for quick emailing (expessially if your sending to someone who doesnt know much about computers and isnt good at opening and saving the attachments) anyway, over all its a great camera, good quality, cheap price, nice little program, and great if you take pictures of yourself..just read the little book that comes with it...you wont be sorry you did!

This camera has a lot of nice features. Takes videos, zoom, LCD screen. Definitely worth the price. And it takes crisp, quality photos. The camera itself and the software is very simple to use. I got mine on sale at Circuit City for $100 but wish I would've waited to get it here even cheaper. I definitely recommend it, especially at this price!!

I purchased four of these cameras to use in a work environment, inexpensive so that in case one breaks or gets lost, it's just replaced, not repaired or investigated. As multiple users will be using these cameras, I chose one that's easy to operate and produces images that are clear enough to be inserted into an on-line slide show, not printed. For that purpose this camera is perfect. If we needed to print the images, we'd choose a higher quality camera. This is a great entry-level camera for my use, children, or printing photos up to 4" x 6".

I'm a big photo buff and this is my third Kodak digital camera. This camera, along with the EasyShare docking station making taking pictures and downloading them to your PC a breeze. Anyone interested in simple picture taking to share with friends and family would love this camera.

I just want to say that my 2 young boys both got a camera for the old son's birthday. They love then and are having a ball. One is 7 and the other 9 years old. The camera is very strong and has taken a lot of dropping and mishandling. Young boys tend to be that way. We are very pleased.

i used the camera while traveling, it was fine taking normal pictures, but if you zoom in at all, you won't be able to see the picture...it turns out very blurry. also, it doesnt work very well in the dark.

I sent this to a friend as a gift. This is her first camera and she loves it. I have gotten pictures on both email and snail mail - all looked great.

The camera itself is very rugged. Mine has been bounced, scratched (except for the lens protector which seems to resist scratching; awesome!), smashed, moistened, covered in dirt, and is still going strong after 2 years.
Super simple to use, despite what you may have read in another review. If you are using XP as your operating system, the camera is plug-and-play. Connect it to the computer throught the USB and then turn the camera on. Amazingly, a window pops up that allows you to choose "scanner and camera wizard" which guides you through getting the photos from your camera to a file folder on your computer of your choosing. The only reason you wouldn't be able to do this is if you've never used a computer before... ever.
There is no optical zoom, so if that is something you're looking for then don't choose this one, obviously (you will lose some resolution when zooming with just a digital zoom).
But, if you ARE looking for a camera that will take simple 35MM shots AND will live through basically anything you can put it through (please, no underwater photography), choose this one for an exceptionally low price on Amazon.com.

I have a different model Kodak camera, however they all use the same EasyShare software. Running Windows XP, I could not get the software to work properly. After several hours on the phone with Kodak tech support, they couldn't get it working either. They said they are aware of the problem on some computers running Windows XP. It is now several weeks later and they still don't have a fix. They don't really seem to care either.

It might not be a bad idea to consider other brands, instead of Kodak. Since, if the software won't work properly, then what good is the camera?

We bought this camera 18 months ago. It takes OK pictures and is easy to use, but the body is a thin plastic. The battery hatch door on the bottom is very vulnerable to breakage. Drop the camera once and you will easily crack the door. You might think with a big company like Kodak that it would be easy to call in and get a new hatch door mailed to you. The part is worth maybe 2 cents. I tried and was told no, you have to send it in for repair - for which there is a $50 flat fee!
Also - don't bother installing the Easy Share software on your PC. The Windows Picture It software is free and much simpler and faster.

It's inexpensive, I'll give it that. You get what you pay for though. This might be a good camera for a kid but if you want a nicer camera go with a Casio or a Canon. The camera looks cheap and the quality isn't great.

Over all the camera is a good one, a little slow on the shutter speed-about 3/4 of a second, not too many pictures until you buy a memory card, REALY eats up battery juice-don't try to use non reacharable batteries; you'll spend a fortune on them. I recomend reacharable 2300mAh Nickel Metal-Hydride Batteries (NIMH). The camera takes good pictures, small and not very heavy, comes with 2 batteries, comes with a wrist lanyard, comes with software,coumputer cable,and dock adapter.

I was looking for an inexpensive digital camera to mainly take pictures to add to my ebay listings. I came across this and bought it because the price was right.

The camera is easy to use. I didn't even need to read the manual to figure out the menu.

The zoom is lacking, as the picture gets blurry as you zoom in. Lucky for me, I don't really need to use the zoom.

This camera is so easy, even my [...] daughter uses it with ease. As such, it has been dropped many times and still works.

Tha battery compartment door did break a little. It still closes enough for the batteries to work but it does not close flush.

The software works just fine on my computer running XP, but it is not my preferred choice.

I do use the camera for ebay pictures as well as general picture taking. The pictures are crisp and clear and look good online and when I print them.

I bought rechargable batteries to avoid any battery issues.

I still have not bought a memory card and only use the internal memory which hold 20 pictures. It is so easy to transfer the pics to my computer that I just do that and then empty the internal memory and start again.

I suggest you buy a card if you want to use the camera to take a lot of picutres away from your home.

The camera does also record soundless video but that is not a feature I use or care about.

This is a great camera to start off with or give to the kids. It takes good pictures, is easy to use, easy to set up, easy to transfer from camera to computer, and overall a great deal for the price.

I bought 4 of these. One for each child in my house. Two of these cameras have overheated the batteries and had to be replaced. Kodak was very good about fixing the cameras but 50% had probelms.

I bought this camera because I wanted to be able to take pictures and post them on a website without first having to take a (disposable) camera in for processing onto a cd. I certainly am no camera or photography expert and I had it figured out within a half hour. You really only have to point and shoot and the camera does the rest. My only complaint is that the internal memory only holds twenty pictures so I will have to purchase a SD card.

All in all, a great little camera for the price.

The Kodak EasyShare C300 is a good beginner's camera I suppose. I read the reviews and saw that this camera was described as being easy to use and with good image quality, so I bought it. I was disappointed when I received my order. Though it is easy to use, the picture quality is pretty rank; horrible even. The pictures it takes outside are barely acceptable, but indoors it's just terrible. If you're looking for a budget camera, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.

Oh so far I love it the only problem I have encountered with it is the zoom but I don't know if it is me or the camera or both but other than that I am quite impressed.

I chose this camera for my 6-year-old daughter who loooves photography and movie making.

3. She could record video with it.

She got the camera for Christmas 2005 and was very excited. One of the first thing she did was record a small video of her baby brother, but when she tried to play it back in the camera you couldn't hear anything (she was very dissapointed). I figured, maybe when I download the video to the computer it will have audio... NOP!! No audio at all. So, in my opinion, why have the video option if it doesn't have audio.

She still uses the camera but not as much as I will like because of the video issue.

Overall, the camera has more downs than ups. Less than half the pictures are of good quality, most of them are blurry, moved, and out of focus. But the pictures that end up good are really good... but really, will you risk it?

And, if you're thinking that it's because the photographer is a 6-year-old kid, you're wrong. With my camera, she takes GREAT pictures and videos!

If you are serious about taking pictures, this is not the camera for you. However, if you want to be able to take quick easy pictures, it is perfect. Picture quality is fair to good (especially if you experiment with lighting, distance, etc.). Very easy to use and simple to download to your computer. Battery life is not that great, but Kodak recommends not using the display to frame your shots, and that seems to help. I wish it had a lens cover, but Amazon has a nifty little leather case that works well. I haven't had too much trouble with the amount of pictures it holds, but if you intend to take a lot, I recommend a separate memory card. All in all, a great little camera.

This camera is great for people who have began their intrest in photography. The camera has auto feature (the main picture taking feature) night picture taking feature, and video feature. The cameras pictures on "look back" do not look so great but once you print them they look great! This camera requires a SD memory card (the camera has has very little memory but you can not print those pictures) You can hook your camera to your computer to edit the pictures. This camera does not require a camera dock. This camera does not use recharegable batteries (AA batteries) This camera is great!!

This camera has been a dream. It takes absolutely gorgeous pictures, and that's coming from someone who has never owned a digital camera before. It is SO easy to use and lacks all the extra confusing bells and whistles that make technology-shy people not want to take a chance. If you're new to digital, or just want something simple, this is the camera for you. All the other reviews are correct, though, the batteries don't last long. I took 4 pictures of my daughter, then brought it to the zoo the following week and took 60 more pictures and the low battery indicator is now on. However, I basically had the camera on all day long and I don't think that's unreasonable. For the economical price of the camera, I can afford to buy a new set of them when I need them.

I have had this camera for about a year and a half. I got so fed up with it that I just bought a new one. I admit, this camera takes decent pictures in good lighting when the zoom isn't used. However, this camera takes horrible pictures if the zoom is used. I would only recomomend this camera to someone who just wants to take pictures of of thier surroundings or to a younger person who is getting their first digital camera.

Horrible camera. Barely had it 2 months before it went on the fritz.Drained the batteries within a few pictures.So not worth more then the cost of a disposable!! Sorry Kodak...but I'll stick with the good ol' reliable Sony.

I gave it two stars because it was great... when it worked.
I got it sometime in January, and it lasted until about June.
I take good care of my things, so I know its not me.
It just suddenly *stopped* working.
I'm more than just a little miffed.
I've tried getting all different types of batteries-
I've tried letting it sit for a while.
I've taken it to my friend who works with cameras for a living and had him take it apart and clean it and all sorts of stuff.
Its dead. I just threw it away.

This is a complete waste of money. (1) It's clunky and hard to carry around. (2) Not really a good value for money based on the MP's it offers. I would recommend you spend the add'l $50 and get a nicer camera! This one is crap!

Camera worked great for us for 6 months. Easy to use, decent pictures and good software. The battery life was fine for our use. It quit working at six months and would no longer focus and is now useless. For a six month disposable camera its a little expensive.

I would spend a little more money and buy a better quality camera. The picture quality was not good at all. I previously owned another Kodak camera with the same Megapixels and the picture quality on that camera was much better. Just after a year of using the Kodak C300 camera, it stopped working and I did not use it that much. I now own the Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 that takes great pictures, I haven't had any problems with it and I have been using it on an almost daily basis since May 2006.

DOWNSIDE:
1. I'll have to add my complaint to several others who had the same problem. The camera suddenly stopped working after nearly 18 months of having no problems. I switched batteries...let it set for some time without batteries or memory card in it...nothing is getting it to work. On top of that I now have a memory card with photos on it that I can't transfer to my computer without a working camera to do that.
2. Not good with indoors pictures ESPECIALLY if you try the "night" mode. If you use that mode, even with a tripod, keep your subjects to still-lifes, only...if you photograph people and they happen to move even the slightest, they will at best be blurry, at worst they will look like double exposures.
3. Indoors pictures set at normal mode, with or without flash, are no better and may even be worse than your standard cheap 35mm camera.

UPSIDE:
1. Through its USB cable, it booted right into Apple's iPhoto software making the organizing and editing of photos that I took a breeze.
2. Outdoors, with plenty of sunlight, gave me near-perfect pictures that got a lot of praise. Kodak did well with this aspect of the camera's ability, given the price.
3. We won this camera (free) so for me it's almost all upside...except now I have to shell out $$$ for a good camera (that will hopefully read my current memory card)

It was alright at first. I was looking for a relatively cheap camera for occasional picture taking. Outside pictures are okay, but indoor pictures are horrid.

However, after a while, the battery life drains too fast. Honestly, invest in a better camera even if you want a cheap one. This one doesn't last more than a month.

I was really disappointed in this product. It worked great when I first got it. But before the first charge on the batteries wore out it stopped working. It was more expensive to return it or have it repaired than it was to buy a new camera. Like I said, disappointed.

For all of the previous reviewers who gave this camera 1 star, I can only guess they had far too high expectations or tried dropping it from the Eiffel Tower and then take a picture with it...this camera is incredibly durable, having survived many drops, and has good enough picture quality that my family members have brought it on several overseas trips and used its pictures in a PowerPoint.

Summary--
PROS:
- Good picture quality, not grainy
- Takes smooth video, although no sound
- Flash illuminates dark scenes well

CONS:
- If you take too many pictures in fast succession, it will take several seconds to "recover".
- Zoom rapidly degrades picture quality -- but that's to be expected with digital zoom.
- You have to install software and go through fancy picture transfer process, whereas most cameras simply show up as a Removable Disk in My Computer when you connect them.

PRO/CON:
- Mac-friendly/PC-unfriendly. Movie files are in QuickTime .MOV format rather than good old universal AVI.

It aggravates me to read some of these reviews. I have used this camera for almost 2 years with no problems and excellent results. If you are going after National Geographic worthy art prints, don't expect this camera to do it. If you want great movies, use a video camera. This camera will give you clear pictures up to 8 X 10 size. You won't be able to get those fast action shots, but this is a bargain camera. You know where your vacation and casual family photos go-on the internet or in the photo box. The few really priceless ones go in the scrapbook, and a lot of them are the school photos and Sears portraits, right? Plus, internet photos need only be about 72dpi resolution (that is low quality FYI), and this camera does at least 300 dpi. I remember going to Vegas in 1998 taking great photos with an old 110 camera. Don't let the whiners push you into spending more money than you need to. (BTW,Professional photos are touched up on the computer- dont expect perfection from a $300 camera, either)

This is the fist digital camera I ever purchased. It can take good pictures provided that there is enough outdoor light but almost 50% of my pictures were blurry in most indoor situations. This is even while making a great effort to hold my hands steady. Trying to get good photos in low light situations without a tripod was nearly impossible. The ISO settings on this baby do not seem to be sufficient for low light and there is no image stabilization to speak of.

Buying a camera with no optical zoom was my biggest mistake. The digital zoom does nothing but degrade your picture quality. Finally, there may be a quality issue with the battery compartment door hinges as mine will no longer close properly. I have to keep it shut with tape just for the batteries to make contact with the terminals.

I upgraded to a 6X Optical Zoom Panasonic Lumix and have been very satisfied. I gave the Kodak C300 to my 12 yr old daughter.


If you buy this camera:

1. Please take more than one shot of your subject because you will have to discard one of the pics.

2. It sucks down batteries. Use rechargeables.

3. Extremely simple to use. One of its advantages.

4. Don't even try to zoom in on a person/object. Poor picture quality is the result.

5. Taking pics in the nighttime or in a dimly lit room is frustrating.

6. Buy a case because there is no cover on the lens.

7. The included Kodak software is impressive (to me) for touching up photos.

I got tired of buying the disposable camera's for my son, so we got him this one for around $50. We paid for it in a few months of buying and developing pictures - and he would rather see them on the computer. Even though he was only 7, we tought him how to take care of it and how it can easily break. After creating his own library in iPhoto on our mac, he has all his pictures isolated (not mixed up with mine!) and we all love it. We've had it for 5 months now and it's been great - just be sure to buy some rechargable bateries.

This camera can make nice 3x5 pictures, but anything bigger gets a little grainy.
The zoom is a joke, if you zoom too much you're in the "red zone" which means your picture will come out really crappy.
I've had this camera for about two years and one day, unexpectedly, the pictures I take come out all blurry! I haven't been able to fix it. The last time I took a decent picture I was on the Golden Gate Bridge and since then it hasn't been working! But I've noticed I can take really awesome up close pictures like a microscope, sort of. Well, time to buy a new camera I guess...

I wasn't going to post until I read the other reviews about the camera dying. My camera has also died, I think it lasted about a year. It doesn't seem like this is happening to everyone, but it happened to me. I paid $100 for this camera new and now it's worthless and out of warranty. It looks like you're taking a gamble getting this camera. Good luck, but I'd stay away if you want a good long term camera.

I am very satisfied with my purchase of the Kodak EasyShare C300 3.2 MP Digital Camera.

I purchased the C300 about 19 months ago.

This camera is easy to use and takes EXECELLENT digital photos.

I expanded the Camera's memory by purchasing a "generic" 1GB SD Memory Card. The SD Card works great with the C300.

I am not impressed with the the C300's accompanying photo-editing software. The photo-editing features are very limited. However, this can be easily rectified by using another photo-editor, such as Picture 9.

Overall, the C300 is a Great Buy!

This camera is great but only for a short time...have already had it repaired once and now once again it has just died on us and repairs are more expensive than new ones....do not buy this camera if you want it to last.

A year later you can get better quality on your cell phone.

No wonder Kodak is in the toilet.

I just want to add to the already available reviews: I agree with most what has been said here. Picture quality is quite below average. The same scene, just seconds apart, and you might get a different coloring in the picture (e.g. picture one is a little reddish, picture two is a little bluish). This is not too bad, though, if you just want a "I-visited-the-Brandenburg-Gate-with-Grandma" picture. I do use a Canon Digital Rebel XT for pictures that I want to turn out nice, but most of the times, the Kodak isn't too bad. If it is a little bad, mostly in low light conditions.
However: This camera is superior in sturdiness. I have taken it everywhere. I take it skiing and I fall with it in my jacket pocket, I drop it - anything. So it will probably make it a nice camera for kids (if you can explain to them that they need to wait the 0.7 seconds until it makes the "click" sound). I wouldn't buy it here, though. Go to ebay, you can get one for $30 there.

I don't care if it had 100x zoom. That's not gonna matter if you cant tell what you were taking a picture of anyways. Its good for some family photos, but only if they're within 5 feet of you. The zoom function is pretty bad. Its a fun camera for a kid though. The price is just about right at about 100 dollars. It is simple to use and download off of. The zoom is just horrible though.

Good Grief! What do you expect out of a low-priced camera! No, this is not a professional
let's shoot the Playmate of the Month camera. You can get those for around a thousand or so USD.
This is a versatile-use-it-out of the box camera for people just getting into digital photograhy or for those who
who want a digital camera without selling the farm. I've shot with one for about two years under some demanding
conditions. It has never failed even after it was dropped and took two bounces on top of the highest mountain in Maine.
It has always performed better than I was led to believe it would. It is not cheaply made even though it is made of plastic--it's sturdy
--no hinges have snaaped off--the lense hasn't dropped off.
Look..the camera snobs are writing misleading reviews about this camera and others. Give the people looking for a camera a break. No!
This not a Nikon, Cannon, or a Leica. It is one hell of an inexpensive digital camera that makes picture taking fun.
