Not worth buying
cons:
Takes forerver to take the photo after you press the shutter.
power guzzler. Nothing eats batteries like this.
Doesn't save some of the settings after you turn off the device.
Expensive when you consider the features it offers.
pros:
Good picture quality.
One final note : It died after an years usage. Avoid this camera at all costs!. Too bad that I couldnt give it a zero star.

Great camera for the price, don't bother with the dock
I bought this camera on sale a couple years ago and the worst problem I have had with it is the silly KODAK policy of forcing you to use their imaging software when installing the driver.
This is aggravating since I have to re-install the driver every so often. WHy can't they offer JUST the driver?
I now use WindowsXP's much better image retrieval system. On my Windows2000 system the driver keeps getting lost and I end up having to reinstall it about every third use.
I too bought an extra memory stick (128mb) and use the camera for personal documentation and for taking gallery photos for church events to be used on their website. I have never had any serious problem with the image quality as I always leave the camera set to best image setting. It doesn't handle dark rooms very well, but then for $150, ... what camera would
I bought the docking device for an additional $50, but since the rechargable battery got to the point it wouldn't work longer than a couple of hours (the reason for my having the dockin station was the fact that it was supposed to recharge the battery) and the camera actually works faster just hooked up to the USB direct.

DO NOT BUY THIS THING!!
I bought this camera quite a while ago, based on the assumption that it was a good entry level digital camera for a beginner.
Here are the major problems I encountered with it:
- It sucks batteries like you cannot even imagine
- The colors are aweful (it looks like there is some magenta shift on the whole spectrum)
- The software is a real piece of junk!!
On the last point (software):
- The CD provided in the box just plain cannot be installed on a standard Windows PC.
- I tried to download an update for my Windows XP laptop and Kodak would like me to install their "easyshare" software on top of the driver. They give the option of not installing it (which is perfect for people who want to use another digital imaging software instead of theirs). However, when I select the "driver" only, it just doesn't work. I rebooted my PC, because we all know Windows is always moody when you install a new driver, but it still cannot see my camera.
Conclusion:
- I cannot connect my camera to my PC.
- Kodak cameras just suck. You cannot install their driver (it looks like their installer program is downloading mountains of data, just to install a small driver).
- The image quality is ridiculous.
- It costs a lot of money to replace batteries so often.
- Don't buy a Kodak camera. Go with the Japanese (Canon and the likes). The other guys know what they are doing.

horrible quality images- eats batteries like crazy!!!!!
All of these Kodak Easyshare cameras seem to have the same problem with horrible image processing. Colors look good but the compression is atrocious. If I use the "2-megapixel" image as my computer wallpaper (~1megapixel) there is a great deal of JPEG artifacting evident. These images are OKAY to print as 3.5" x 5" prints but not much larger. Even 4"x6" prints start to show artifacting and noise. As if it isn't bad enough to have poor images, the camera also eats 2 AA batteries for every 35 images captured!!! I have to bring a pack with extra batteries everywhere I take my camera!

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA
I bought this camera during 2002 Black Friday Sale. After one year of regular use (no more than 20 times of use), it stopped to power on. I tried different rechargable battery (including Kodak recommended) and even recharges, but still no good. It has one year warranty, but it stopped working right after one year.

Two Year Update
It's been over two years since I bought this camera and it's still going strong. After reading some of the more recent reviews I just wanted to touch on some subjects:
Battery Life - Using 2300 mAh Ni-MH I can take over 70 top quality images, at least half with the flash on, on two batteries. During the hurricanes of 2004 that hit Florida I purchased a Lithium Ion battery cell for the camera and it's STILL in the camera and working perfectly!
Image Quality - I'm a digital artist and know image artifacting and the differences between poor quality images and images worth printing. I've printed over a dozen 8x10s over the last two years and they've all come out beautiful. 4x6 prints that are well exposed are indistinguishable from 35mm prints.
Imaging Speed - Yes, this, and every other point and shoot digital camera, has a slow recycle speed, some newer camera may be marginally faster but for something two years old this works as well if not better than any on the market at the time.
In conclusion: BUY this camera if you can find one. It takes great pictures, it does NOT eat batteries as others have claimed and you can get some very nice archival prints from it. For the money I spent two years ago I couldn't be happier.
Please see my review from two years ago further down the list for more information on the Kodak CX4230.

Nice camera! -- 11 1/2 yr. old's review
This is a pretty nice camera! I recieved it yrs. ago, and it still works great. Here are some pros and cons:
Pros: Pretty nice 2.0 picture quality, easy transport from doc to computer, nice features, works pretty good, picture can be taken with the screen and an eye-through lens.
Cons: Battery life not that long, battery wears out in a couple years, sometimes when the battery dies and needs to be charged you have to set the date & time again.
Overall, this is a pretty nice camera, and if you're neady for one, and you find this one: GO FOR IT!!!

Horrible! That's Why I Got It Free With My Dell
I agree with Lagenfeld's review "Not worth buying". It takes forever to take a picture after you press the shutter. Drains batteries in an instant. It doesn't even take good pictures for how much it drains the batteries. You'll be spending $20 for batteries everytime. Even if you get chargeable batteries, you'll be tired of charging them ever so constantly and if you go somewhere and don't have an outlet to plug the charget into, you'll be missing great shots. You have to keep reprogramming your settings on the camera, because it never saves your settings everytime you turn it off. THE COLOR IS ALWAYS WAY TOO BRIGHT OR WAY TOO DARK! You'll make everyone including yourself look hideous or like a ghost with this camera. The person never looks like themselves with this camera. IT'S A FRUSTRATING AND ABSOLUTELY HERENDOUS CAMERA NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE CAMERA COSTS. IT'S NOT WORTH A DIME!!! THAT'S WHY IT CAME FREE WHEN I BOUGHT MY FIRST COMPUTER.

Camera was good until the lens cover broke
I bought this camera in April 2003 and have taken alot of good pictures with it. I used the viewer mostly so I didn't have trouble with batteries.
I would say it is a good camera but the switch that opens the lens cover stuck and we couldn't get it open. My husband took it apart and we find it has a delicate setup on the lens cover. PLASTIC!! The lens cover had broken inside.
Replacement parts are not longer available.
I think this camera should have lasted more than 3 years. I would have rated it a 5 star if it hadn't given me this problem.
My sister bought a Canon at the same time and she still has a good camera.
So I changed to Canon for my next camera which I just bought this month. Sept 2006.

Still a great camera!
I have had this camera for over three years now and it is still working great. As far as batteries go, you need to use the reccomended CRV3 battery if you want the most life. The second choice would be rechargable batteries. The shutter speed takes time to get used to especially when you are trying to get a picture of your kids and they quit what they were doing so cute before it takes. The quality can not be beat for a 2mp camera. I currently have a 5mp Optimus camera also and even though the quality is higher, I prefer the Kodak for everyday pictures because it controls the lighting better with the white balance unlike most newer cameras with the automatic white balance that will not let you adjust it. Don't get me wrong I have had to work on it some but that is my fault because I let my children take pictures with it and has been dropped. I have replaced the battery cover. You can not get parts through Kodak but you can get parts for it on Ebay. The battery cover was remanufactured and was $10 on ebay. Also the lens cover will not close on its own, I have to lightly tap it but it does not interfere with the camera working. This is a great camera but I paid less than $100 for mine brand new, so search for better prices or for a higher MegaPixel camera for that price.
