Cool freatures, compact, uses 2x AA batt, not to many buttons, good menu fatures.

Cons
Digital Zoom is kinda weak but, 4x zoom is sufficient for point and shoot.

Easy to use point and shoot. Reading the manual really helps. Fast "loading" time and when using a good memory card, you can hardly see any lag time (except when using flash). Using the flash, like any good camera, you'll expect some lag time in order to recharge the flash. Good camera, good features, good price, @ $150.00 at walmart, good buy. I rreally like this camera!!!. I have an Olympus E-10 and I take quality pictures. But for point and shoot, this camera works. Like any other digital camera, this camera has its few flaws. The main one being is focusing. I have used cannon, olympus, etc models and, all have similiar focusing problems. this can't be avoided coz, the camera tries to compensate for the lack of light. if this is a big problem for you, go with APS or 35mm film camera or buy yourself an SLR camera, so you can try to focus it!!!... Overall, this camera is great.

This Camera is a Good Choice if You Want Something... Flexible Enough for Enthusiasts

I have a Dimage Xt as does about 5 other people I know. We all love them. So, I recommended the X31 to a friend. That was the biggest mistake I have ever made.

The X31 is a piece of trash. It is unable to take focussed pictures inside a dimly lit bar. My Xt had no problems taking pictures in the same situation.

If you want a camera that takes pictures in focus, you should avoid the X31.

As the owner of a bigger, more complicated digital camera for "serious" photography, I purchased this camera to bring along with me in my pocket to parties, happy hours, etc. BIG MISTAKE. This camera will not focus AT ALL in low light. I sent it back for exchange, thinking I had a lemon, and received a replacement that was just as bad. I called the manufacturer to complain, and was told "a camera at this price has limitations." Like being unable to focus?!?! I would expect this from a cheesey, no-name brand, but not from Konica Minolta (who now, in my opinion, rank with the cheesey no-name brands).

Great camera ... IGNORE ALL OTHERS REVIEWS!! this is one of the best and fastests cameras u can have.

I bought the X31 to replace a dimage X that I had used real hard over the last couple years. Great sized-camera, and it took amazing photos! The dimage X was awesome, but couldn't handle the rough usage I put it through, with the lens cover finally wearing out. The lithium battery life was also lame. I finally had to replace it and made the mistake of buying the dimage X31.

The only good thing about the dimage X31 is the use of standard AA batteries, although the batteries don't last long. The exposure/focus is just horrible as compared to the dimage X. The silly toggle switch is lame. The menu is just plain difficult compared to the dimage X. Also, the toggle switch between the video mode and still mode is placed in a stupid location.

DONT BOTHER!

Die fantastisch kleine X31 macht gute Fotos bis zu einwandfreien 20x30cm Laborvergrößerungen! Und wegen dieser beiden Eigenschaften habe ich sie mir gekauft! Aber sie hat keinen (optischen) Sucher, obwohl in den technischen Daten bei Amazon "Sucherkamera" steht - und das ist sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig! Was macht man im Freien bei Schnee, wenn das Display nichts mehr zeigt? Sie ist somit - wie bei mir - als Zweitkamera immer dabei, und wenn nicht, dann gibt es Sucherprobleme!

Der Nachfolger der DX20 überzeugt absolut. 3,2 Millionen Pixel, und eine Reaktionszeit von nur 1 sek. lassen einen keinen Schnappschuss mehr verpassen. Und die Bildqualität ist dabei sehr überzeugend. Hab noch kein Bild gemacht, bei dem mir irgendein Entwicklungsdienst nicht beste Qualität versichert hätte. Dazu kommt das die Kamera kaum größer ist als eine Zigarettenschachtel, und auch durch den optischen Zoom nicht größer wird, da sich dieser komplett im Gehäuse abspielt.
Ab Werk wird diese Kamera wie fast alle mit einer 16MB SD Karte geliefert, es empfiehlt sich also, dies gleich beim Kauf mit aufzurüsten. Zum weiteren Zubehör gehören neben den AA-Batterien die nötige Software, Handschlaufe und Handbuch.
Sehr gut gefällt mir auch die einfache Menüführung sowie die vielen kleinen Details im Menü. So gibt es 5 verschiedene Farbeinstellungen, manuellen/automatischen Weißabgleich, Porträtfunktion, 4 Spezialeffekte (Rahmen, Doppelbild, Bildfolge,...) Belichtungskorrektur von -2 bis +2. Außerdem gibt es die Möglichkeit, die Bilder direkt in email - taugliche Größen zu speichern, und natürlich gibt es auch den Direktdruck-Assistenten PictBridge.
Also, insgesamt eine absolut empfehlenswerte Kamera. Die 5 Punkte bekommt sie nur nicht aufgrund der kleinen Speicherkarte ab Werk, und weil sie "nur" SD und Multimedia Karten zulässt. Mir persönlich ist das egal, könnte aber ja für andere ein Rolle spielen.

Ich habe eine handliche Digitalkamera gesucht und nach längerem hin und her habe ich mich für diese hier entschieden!
Ich bin super zufrieden auch wenn sie bei wenig Licht einiege probleme hat scharfe Fotos zu machen (weswegen ich ihr nur 4 sterne gebe!)!
Jedoch ist das Preis-Leistugs Verhältnis gut!
Sie ist klein und sehr Hanlich, hat ein grosses Display und ein tolles schickes Design!
Und die Fotos haben auch eine super Qualität!

NUR EMFEHLENSWERT!

wenn ihr was kleines leichtes zu einem günstigen preis sucht, dann seid ihr hier richtig. sie ist die ideale zweitcamera ... einfaches handling, keine aussenliegenden rädchen, die sich meist von selbst verstellen; auch hat sie keine scharfen kanten. die bildqualität ist ok und lässt sich übers menü individuell einstellen. eine camera für schnelle schüsse aus der hüfte ohne schnickschnack und ohne ansprüche an technische vorkenntnisse. wunder könnt ihr halt noch nicht erwarten, aber minolta arbeitet bestimmt noch daran.
viel spass wünsche ich allen minimalisten, die nur wert auf das wesentliche legen. vielen dank an amazon für die ultra schnelle lieferung. gruss hajo

Kein Sucher sondern lediglich ein winziges Display, auf dem kaum etwas erkannt werden kann. Der Herstellertext protzt mit blitzschneller Auslösung und relativ hoher Auflösung, vergisst aber geflissentlich, dass diese Vorzüge nichts nutzen, wenn das Motiv nicht anvisiert werden kann. Schade für das sonst schicke Teil.

Auf der Such nach einer günstigen Digitalkamera bin ich auf die X31 gestossen.
Aufgefallen ist sie mir durch das flache Gehäuse und die "schicke" Optik.
Da sollte man sich aber nicht blenden lassen, denn die Kamera liefert katastrophale Ergebnisse.
Auch bei ausreichenden Lichtverhältnissen sind Bilder, die drinnen geschossen wurden, unscharf. Sobald das Licht ein bisschen schwächer wird, stellt der AF nicht mehr scharf...!

Diese Kamera ist sehr klein, so daß man fast nicht weiß wie man sie halten soll. Sie macht einen ordentlichen Eindruck und schießt scharfe Fotos bis ins Detail, solange es hell ist. Dabei gibt es aber Probleme mit dem Bildausschnitt, weil die Kamera keinen Sucher hat. Bei Kunstlicht hat sie besonders im Telebereich Schwierigkeiten.
3 Pnkte von mir, weil bei meiner die Batterieanzeige bei vollen Akkus bereits im roten Bereich war und nach 20 Fotos nichts mehr ging.

Die Kamera ist sehr schnell und macht bei gutem Licht vollautomatisch schöne Bilder. Leider ist das Objektiv sehr lichtschwach. Deswegen sind die Verschlusszeiten relativ lang, was im Vergleich zu anderen Kameras die Verwacklungsgefahr vergrößert. Bei schwachen Lichtverhältnissen macht sich der schlechte TTL Video-AF durch eine lange andauernde Fokussierung bemerkbar.
!!!Vorsicht!!! Die Kamera kann bei schwächren Lichtverhältnissen, z.T. im Zimmer mit 40W Glühbirne beleuchtet, Probleme mit dem Autofokus haben. In völliger Dunkelheit sind auch Fotos mit Blitz nicht scharf, weil die Kamera nicht fokussieren kannn.

I was hoping that when I pay a good amount of money for a product from a well known company which has a reputation in photgraphy, i'll get a camera that can take pictures. With the x31 that is hardly the case since the camera doesn't know how to focus. If you plan on taking pictures anywhere other than under glaring lights or the midday sun, buy another camera because the camera will just get confused and give you that little red dot telling you it can't focus.

diese Kamera ist gut bei Tageslicht, aber kaum wird es etwas dunkler, kann sie nicht mehr scharf stellen.
Sie ist daher eine reine Schönwetterkamera und ein typisches "Einsteigermodell", mit denen der Handel seine Ladenhüter loswerden will.

I have had this camera for over a year. I bought it because I read some reviews (from people who obveously hadn't used the camera for a long time) that said the shutter lag was great. I also liked its size. I knew the video was not going to have sound, so while inconvenient, it was not anything unexpected. I also loved the fact it took AA batteries.

However, this camera has ZERO durrability. The door that holds in the batteries broke in week 1 after the warrenty ended. Minolta will not replace it. It is a cheep peice of plastic, and they will not replace it unless I pay for repairs that cost more than the camera did when I bought it,

Also, and this was a big one for me, if you are in any lighting condition less than 'bright' you can forget about getting an in-focus shot. This thing can not take low light pictures.

Also, the ergonomics of this thing is all off. It was particularly bad because I am left-handed, but even for my right handed family members, it takes some getting used to NOT to hold this thing with 2 hands, and NOT having your shutter-finger get in the way of the lense.

Avoid this camera. Make sure to go to your local retail store and TEST your cameras before you buy them. Test them for shutter lag, batter door design, and low light conditions (put your hand over the lense, or bring sun-glasses).

The camera is easy to handle and therefore for people who just wanna make pictures. The camera needs some seconds to focus the object which makes snapshot almost impossible. It is really convenient because of its size and the inbuild lences. The camera is really good for daylight use, but if it gets darker outside or even inside you can not use the camera at all. The flash, needed to focus on something, is to weak.

I got some really good use out of this camera, I will treasure many of the beautiful pictures. However, I would not go with it again. While it provides some nice options and I love tiny design, it was often difficult to focus and the menu, while intuitive and simple, took time to adjust. Even with the case sold by minolta specifically for this camera, it did not handle bumps well at all. In addition, it takes too long to store a shot and let you take another one.
While my outdoor pictures were often stunning, indoors was a real problem. The flash is very strong and casts severe shadows, and I think the color is unauthentic as well. Sometimes you can do ok without the flash, but often the color is unauthentic anyway and often dark.
I caught on to the focusing system easily, but it became a problem when I wanted to be in a picture and have someone else shoot it. Almost never had good results. Also, forget about low light conditions-- even though the flash compensates perfectly, the lens doesn't focus and your pictures will be uselessly blurry.
Bottom line: Not reccomended. I'm sorry I let myself get talked into getting a more expensive (at the time) camera when I probably would have been equally satisfied with a cheaper camera and fewer options.
