I love this new LCD monitor!
Olympus FE-340 8MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Silver)
This is my third Olympus camera. I love them all. The previous camera, a Stylus 600, is a good camera. However,in sunlight, the LCD monitor was not easy to see. The FE-340's monitor is much improved. Also, this camera has many new features, like the 5X optical zoom that the other cameras do not have. This is the best camera I ever had.

A great compact digital camera
This a great compact digital camera. The pictures are clear and crisp. Images are not blurred and are vry good quality. Took it with me to the opening day of baseball season and I have had numerous folks comment on the quality of pictures this camera took and these comments were from folks that could care less about the game but were more amazed at the quality of the picture. There many different modes you can use to enhance your picture or correct red eye.
I did a lot of research on the camera I wanted. Even bought another camera and took it back after having it for one day. I'm glad I went with the Olympus because it is our second Olympus after about 8 years and
our prior Olympus is still a very good camera.
I did find it less expensive at Office Depot($149.99) and bought it there.

Good quality for such a price.
This digital camera provides a good quality at a good price. Is a good choice if you are looking for non profesional camera.

So Much Bang For The Buck!
After 26 years of being in the hobby of photography, I have already outgrown the stage where I thought that the best cameras were simply the ones with the most number of bells and whistles. There was a time when I wouldn't even consider something inexpensive, thinking that surely it's features weren't the latest. Maturity has given me the wisdom of realizing that as far as my point and shoots were concerned (and I've had so many of these through the years), I have never really availed of much of these whatchamacallit features! The point of having a point and shoot, after all, is to be able to just point and shoot (and leave all the adjustings with your SLRs)! A few days ago, I ordered the affordable (inexpensive, not cheap) Olympus FE-340 and FE-290. Yes, I ordered both of them! I was attracted by the 5x optical zoom of the FE-340 and the 4x (with wide-angle) optical zoom of the FE-290, and I couldn't decide which one I wanted more. Well, it turns out that the combined price of both units were still less than the price of one comparable unit of another brand. More importantly, I simply trust the lens of the Olympus since I know that it is a long-time optical company that created an optical product, not just an electronics company that decided to dabble in cameras.

Morbid paleness
Bought this camera prioritizing the size and picture quality first of all. Own Kodak Easyshare z7590. Just needed a decent small camera for my wife. For short, Olympus fe340 is well organized especially for an amateur such as my wife, nice large LCD. However, there is one painful flaw about this one - the pictures come out morbidly pale. Used different functions, tried viewing them on 2 modern laptops, printed them out - can't help it. On the camera LCD they look just fine, but nowhere else beyond it. Returning this item to Beach Camera who is charging me 10% restocking fee or whatever they call it - find a better seller.

I did not like this camera.
I am a fan of Olympus products, and have owned 5 previous Olympus digital cameras. I was hoping this model would become my new primary photo machine. The price was right, I was attracted by the nifty BLUE color: But dissappointment set in after I took it out of the box. The two features that caused me to return the camera are:
#1) the telephoto control is awkward, a pin head sized ball on the front of the camera. I don't know why Olympus decided to get away from the eminently sensible toggle switch on the back which the right thumb could toggle while holding the camera steady with two hands.
#2) was the killer though. Whenever the camera was turned off, when you turn it back on it resets itself to the AUTO setting. It didn't hold my setting of FLASH OFF. That resulted in an embarrassing moment in a very solemn situation where expressly there was NO FLASH ALLOWED.
At that moment, I knew the camera was going back to the store.
I want a camera that holds MY settings, not reverts to the default.

Very nice camera
Well, You have to know the resolution of the picture, and the zoom, those are very important things, so you buy your camera. I'm very happy for my camera, I have share with some of my friends, and they really like it. Everybody say, wow, wow, nice camera. easy to take picture, and video. really good.

Not What I Thought would be.
I have owned several Olympus Products, most worked well, color was usually excellent, FE-340 breaks the mold.
Someone else mentioned that photos come out pale, I agree, the general color quality is not too good, actually it is poor, not at all what Olympus usually does.
This performance in the download to card is very slow, I am using a Fuji M512 card, works very well on Fuji or other Olympus cameras.
I going to return this camera, it just is not acceptable.

Olympus FE-340 is very user-friendly
Olympus FE-340 has a good sized LCD, 5X zoom, and is very user-friendly specially for people who are simply point-and-shoot photographers.
PROS:
-- Camera has 5x zoom, looks solidly built, comes in great colors and
the control buttons are very intuitive.
-- Has a Guide option which describes possible shooting scenarios
(like shooting something behind a glass, shooting with bright
backlight) and you only need to select which scenario applies and
the camera provides you with the optimal settings. You just select it,
then point and shoot.
-- LCD screen is good sized and clear.
-- Provides 4 different preview shots at once (splits LCD display in 4)
and gives you the option to select which shot looks best to you.
-- Image quality is good. Nothing spectacular, just good.
CONS:
-- Only takes xD picture cards.
-- No burst mode (this is the continuous shooting mode).
-- Write speed and flash recycle time is very slow.
If you like fast burst mode, faster write speed, and SD card compatible,
try either Canon SD1000 or Casio EX-Z80.

Disappointing Purchase
First, I'm disappointed in the camera and that's no fault of the seller. However, shortly after purchasing the camera I found out that I could have bought the same camera model for 25% less elsewhere. I also responded to a questionaire that the seller, Expo Eletronics, sent me to see if I was happy with my purchase. I told them the same thing that I said here and still have not received any response from them.

Great Camera
Fun and easy to use. This compact camera is great to take along for business or pleasure. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Have used the camera to do home inspections and document items that need to be corrected. Great pictures even in tight spots. Stores in your shirt pocket.

Cool features but bad photo quality
I recently bought this camera after testing it in several different stores. I was drawn to the many different options avaiable to choose from, including the one that automatically takes the photo as soon as the subject smiles. The colours on the large LCD screen were beautiful and extremely close to the items I took pictures of. So I bought the camera, thinking I would be very happy with it.
That night, I took quite a few photos indoors and, the next day, took some shots outside. I also experimented with the macro and supermacro modes and finally uploaded all the pictures to the computer. I thought there was some sort of error in uploading when I saw how most of the pictures looked. I deleted them from the computer and reloaded them, hoping that that there had been some sort of error the first time. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
The photos were very washed out once on the computer as well as when they were printed, though they had appeared beautifully on the screen. After checking around, I found that this seems to be a major plague of this camera. Also, though the macro mode produced some good phtots (despite the colouration), the supermacro mode produced photos of very poor quality. (I uploaded a picture (non-macro mode) to show just how the camera works. That picture was the best of a series of photos taken under the same conditions, though using different settings to get the best shot and illustrates the washed out looks that all of my pictures displayed.)
I give this camera 3 stars mainly because of how easy it is to use and the many different settings available, as well as the decent speed of taking photos. However, the fact that the actual pictures are not of very decent quality knocks off a star and the other lost star is due to the fact that many of the available settings don't really add much to the camera overall. For instance, the mode that takes a photo instantly once the subject smiles does not operate that well. The subject must stay still for a few seconds and, if they move even slightly, the camera will have to reposition and reset itself before it takes the picture, wasting quite a bit of time in the process. However, since the actual picture quality is more important than the bells and whistles, I returned this camera shortly after purchasing it.

Love it
Camera arrived quickly and it's very easy to operate as well as a good size. For the price you can't go wrong.

Olympus FE340
Easy-to-use camera. Would be better with a view window. Difficult at times seeing the image in the LCD viewer. Quality of pictures very good but not the best.

Olympus FE-340 8MP Digital Camera
This is my third Olympus camera. I am very please with it, as with all the others. I just wanted to upgrade to a smaller, but higher pixel camera. So far I am very please with the pictures it takes. It's certainly easy to use. I travel a lot and this is perfect for putting in my purse and taking along.

Great camera with lots of options
I love this camera. My husband and I replaced an old Kodak and did a lot of research to find something decent for our money. I really like the different features to choose from. Other customers have mentioned their pictures were washed out. I did not encounter that problem unless I chose the wrong setting to shoot the picture. I found that indoor pictures taken on the automatic setting look yellowed (depending on the lighting), however if the shot is taken on the indoor setting the pictures come out fine.
I also love the action shot setting. I took some great photos of my husband and son jumping through a wave in the Atlantic Ocean. You can see the individual water droplets around them! I like that the pictures come out clear and are not pixilated, even when taken from a distance and zoomed in.
The video option is nice if you don't want to lug around a lot of equipment. I was amazed at how many video snipets we took while vacationing and we still had a lot of memory left over. You can also choose to capture sound with each photo taken. For someone who wants to remember names, dates, or specific places this can be a great feature. We have captured our son saying some of the funniest things after the shot was taken!
We purchased this camera to take on a cruise to document my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. I would trust this product for any of your precious memories.
A note of caution, if you do not pick up the memory card M+, you will find that the camera speed is slow. I talked with a sales manager at Circuit City and he said it was the memory card that slows down the camera reset time, not the camera itself. So if you want it to be ready to take another picture fast, spend the extra money and get the better card.

An awesome camera!
The Olympus FE-340 is a great product. I have never taken better picture with any other camera before. I can shoot from inside the car and half the time the pictures look better than a shot taken while standing. It's amazing! I also love the feature that allows you to zoom in on the pictures that you've shot and that you can crop and brighten the photos right on the camera. It is light weight and compact, a great color, and it has a great zoom. This is a great camera for any photographer.

Great digital camera w/wide view
The quality of the pictures from this camera are unbeatable. I would highly recommend this product to others.
|
Great quality camera
I love this camera. It takes great pictures even when the subject is moving. I am glad I chose it. It is the right size to fit in my purse and easy to learn to use. The Olympus makes a good digital camera. The only thing is does not come with the xd picture card like some other digitals. But was at a great price, new and again a great digital camera if you are looking for a point and shoot.

Olympus FE 340
We have always liked Olympus Cameras we tried a different brand and was just disappointed. We love the body style of the FE340 and how easy it is to use. The quality of the pictures are great this camera will not disappoint any one that would buy and use it and the price was great...
The 8MP is more than enough. The Zoom features are fantastic.. Enjoy if you buy it..

Nice little camera, not great, but not bad
The Olympus FE-340 provides a respectable 8 megapixels of resolution with acceptable levels of performance across the board. If you are looking for a well built, slim, entry-level camera that's easy to use, the FE-340 makes a good choice. However, the average image quality and smeared flash photos make this camera fall short of perfection. There are a lot of good things about the camera - easy-to-use interface, stylish build, great colors, and a good lens with a little more range than is the norm at this price point. Unfortunately, you'll have to accept the good with the bad, which means soft details, aggressive NR in high-ISO performance, and average battery life.
Pros:
* Solid metal body with nice styling
* Plenty of resolution in LCD
* Nice lens
* Easy to use
Cons:
* Average image quality
* Average overall performance
* Smeared flash shots, and noise/noise reduction in general

A shade worse than FE-230
I own an Olympus FE-230 which I recently gave away to my folks for taking pics of my baby niece.
The FE-230 is light, sleek and extremely nice with the picture quality.I got hooked onto Olympus with this camera and decided to try the FE-340 which,as the model number suggests is a more evolved variety--or so I thought! It is far bulkier and heavier which is a HUGE negative for me.Most importantly, in no-flash mode, the camera does not adjust for low light and in fact the pictures come much darker than the actual light of the surroundings!I am not sure if there is sophisticated workaround (which beats the purpose of a point and shoot,of course) to this low light outcome.
I wont say I am thrilled with this heavier and wider cousin of the FE-230.I'll suggest checking other varieties like the Nikon coolpix before deciding on this one.

Good Camera for the amature photographer
Overall I am happy with this camera. Some picture have come out blurry but the colors are good, zoom is amazing, and it's small enough to fit in a coin purse. I would recommend it, Olympus builds a good camera.
