Fasten your weight-belts and grease your o-rings to dive into the wonderful world of subsea imaging with the second prestigious annual SanDisk RedSea Underwater Photography Competition. The loot is loose and with a 10,000 USD prize in cash for the best five images this event is worldwide unique. All prizes exceed the humongous lump sum of 40,000 USD. It has attracted digital and analogue shooters from all around the globe and digital newcomers have the chance to meet famous professionals. Among these are names such as big animals photographer Amous Nachoum, recent Wetpixel/DPG Photo Contest Winner Noam Kortler and Tibor Dombovari.

This year’s SanDisk RedSea Underwater Photo Competition is organized by YAM Magazine, directed by David "Pilo" Pilosof and cash prizes sponsored by SanDisk, Olympus and the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.

Facilities and logistics are provided by the Red Sea Sports Club. The Event is carried out by the Manta Diving Centre, a PADI 5 Star IDC Training facility based at Coral Beach.

Live webcast and digital hands-on practise is brought to you by DIGIDEEP’s Lars Kirchhoff and Andreas "Andi" Voeltz, co-developer of PADI’s new digital underwater photography (D.U.P.) course. Competition dates and ceremonies take place from 24th -29th April 2006.
About the Opening Shot

Sharon relaxes with her Ikelite Nikon D70 housing in the pool of the Ambassador Hotel
During Andi’s PADI D.U.P. Instructor Training we stumbled into Sharon Rainis, who won DIGIDEEP’s Picture Of The Week Contest in week 47.2005 with a beautiful underwater photo of a Dolphin. Sharon is PADI Instructor at the Manta Diving Centre and also makes a decent underwater model when she is not behind her own camera. As you can see, she is proud of her Nikon D70 housing (hello Ike!). Lars was quickly taking advantage of this and instantly digitally abused her for our opening shot. Lars would like to have mentioned two things about the photo. First: the yellow stuff is not photoshopped! Second: the photos were not sponsored by Ikelite.
