CDF’2008: Rancho El Sobrino at Westpunt, Curacao

Today we're moving from Westpunt to the eastern side of Curacao. But we won't leave without thanking our hosts. After having spend 4 days in "Rancho El Sobrino" we now know how delicious Carribean food can be. Beside 16 Apartments, a dive center, rental car service and a swimming pool the cosy place offers a real festival for your taste buds. If you want to discover the local food of Curacao you HAVE TO eat at Rancho El Sobrino.

This is really Curacao!
Randolph. This name has to come first in this article – beacause the owner of the resort is somewhat special. He is one of the few genuine "Westpunt" people that brings business in the calm western part of the island. One of his ancestors got a the piece of Land during the slavetimes and passed in on to his children. Randolph started building the resort in 1998 and put all his passion in every detail. And this passion you can still feel today. Specially in the kitchen – the local food is a definitive must try. For us it was the mainreason for leaving the water after the dives. The apartments are nice and functional, there is a swimming pool to chill down and the cosy wooden made restaurant invites to take a little rest. It is a nice and romantic place with a touch of backpacker feeling. But even if you don't want to live there – it is always worth to come for a little snack or a meal in between or after the dives.
Private Diving!
Diving on Curacao is private. Very private. Most dives are shore dives. So if you want to dive, all you need to do is grab a tank out of the compressor room, put it in your rental car and select one of the beautiful beaches or bays for your dive. But Harald, the german base leader, is always there to answer questions, give tips or PADI dive education. Soon there will be also a dive boat for trips to exposed dive spots.
