Hugyfot introduces 45 degree swivelling viewfinder
It stays enthralling in this summer slump. Even though the Belgium Manufacturer for Underwater Housings still is on company holiday until 30th July 2006, they keep assiduously pushing new products into the market. The latest coup is a 45 degree swivelling viewfinder that can be mounted on all existing underwater housings. More photos that display how it is mounted on the housing, retail price and who else offer 45 degree viewfinders you can read in our full news item.
Some of you now may ask what a 45 degree viewfinder is good for. Many underwater photos benefit from positioning the camera’s lens slightly upwards against the surface. As long as you are hovering in mid water this is rarely a problem. But if an object lies on a straight sandy bottom you may have to bend strangely behind the camera and kiss the bottom. The family of 45 degree viewfinders wants to end this dilemma. Further more they offer they advantage of being able to swivel, allowing you to adapt the viewfinder’s position no matter if you want to shoot portrait or landscape. Another pro that comes with the class of DeLuxe-Viewfinders and marks an important reason for buying them is the 1:1 magnification that comes along with it. The viewfinders image will be extremely magnified and is optimized for the working distance of your eye through a diving mask underwater.

The classic supplier of such a viewfinder was the company SEACAM. from Austria. After a long era of technological leadership two other companies named INON and UK-GERMANY introduced their prototypes for a 45 degree viewfinder project during dive trade show at the end of 2005. Unfortunately the availability and price of these solutions are still unknown. Without a big announcement Hugyfot suddenly surprises everyone with ready-to-market viewfinder system.

As there was recently a big buzz about products that are not available yet and we did not receive an official press release, we were hesitant to publish this. But after receiving our new 45 degree swivelling viewfinder without any delay for our Hugyfot 350D underwater housing we can give you some insights. The housing had to be brought into the Service Center located in Berlin for modification and pressure test. The viewfinder is real and it offers the desired 1:1 magnification of the image (and what nobody expected) it can easily be removed for transportation.
The costs for the consumer are:
895 EUR for an upgrade including mounting and pressure test, or
795 EUR if the viewfinder is ordered together with a new housing.
Existing housings have to be sent to Hugyfot Beglium or your Local Service Center for modification.
Also modification is already available for customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Hugyfot Germany.

What do you think about optional viewfinders? Resonable? Futile? Precious or too expensive?
