New world record on Copenhagen Diveshow 06
The new Danish free-diver team beat the existing record, Saturday afternoon on The Copenhagen Diveshow in Denmark. Together the five men held their breath for almost half an hour. We congratulate the team and like to share this news forwarded by DYK Magazine with all apnea enthusiast visiting DIGIDEEP.com. Hold your breath and read on for more...
The new Danish Freediver team became official at the beginning of this year. So their first official performance was a Team Static competition on The Copenhagen Diveshow. The show is held at Denmarks biggest holiday-fair ”FERIE” in Bella Center in Copenhagen. On the diveshow the 5 men team had decided to beat an existing unofficial world record in the discipline: ”teamstatic”. It is a “relay” event where each diver holds his breath for as long as he can – one by one. The previous record was Swedish - set by a 3 men large crew on a total of 17,28 minutes. The Danish team beat that record with almost 90 seconds leaving the new record at a total of 18,56 minutes.
The person that held his breath for the longest time was Stig Åvall Severinsen. Stig is a triple world record holder and he impressed the audience with a breath hold for 7 minutes and 10 seconds – after that performance he announced that he normal holds his breath for at least 8 minutes but he never got around starting his own clock. So he was not able to see how far he should push himself.
When the world record for “three persons” - Peter Pedersen, Henning Larsen og Stig Åvall Severinsen was “in house” - the rest of the crew continued the event and set a new record for “five persons”. Kurt Lykke Larsen and Timo Jattu, took the team all the way to 29,31 minutes total.
- We are very happy about beating the existing record with almost 1,5 minutes. Our goal was to cross the ½ hour limit for the five of us, but considered that this is a big diveshow with lots of people around, little places to relax and warm up, we are quite pleased, says a happy freediver Stig Åvall Severinsen.
The next big project for the new team is the World Cup in Egypt in November. An event they expect to leave with gold medals!
