SanDisk RedSea Underwater Photo Competition 2006 Live Webcast

Day 3

Pilo gives a speech
We just came home from the Opening Cocktailparty with Eilat’s Mayor, Meir Yitzhak Halevi, at the Red Sea Marine Park. Surrounded by an impressive reefscape there was finally time to exchange with other competitors and some of the organizers and sponsors, supported by some finger-food and delicious wine. New arrivals included Amous Nachoum and Representatives from SanDisk, California. David „Pilo“ Pilosof was giving a small speech were he announced his wish, to establish this yearly event as a „Formula One for Underwater Photography“. It seems like his vision steadily becomes reality. A small chat with previous year’s winner, Susan Reiter confirms that. According to her personal impression, more pro camera systems went into the water then last year. Also more international guests are among the numerous competitors.

However in the water we were facing some drawbacks, concerning visibility. Anyway, it was not bad enough to keep us from shooting cool scenes. Until sunset photographers were setting out to find a good comprise between image-hunt and Cocktailparty. Also I have to leave soon to backup my images with the Jury. Tomorrow the SanDisk RedSea Competition 2006 will finalize for this year. But before I get busy, here come some...

Compact Camera thoughts
As promised, today we write more about compact people, using compact cameras on short dives and downloading compact flash cards to compact laptops in crumpet compact rooms (we think). But we assume that they came on fast private Lear jets (with Julian), as Lear Jets are also comparably compact. Sorry guys but our domes are just bigger than yours. Louisa was wondering if a 150mm macro is as good as an eight inch (dome!). But the authors think that is just a matter of perspective. For the average Eilat dive site a six inch might be sufficient, whereas in Sharm El Sheikh eight inch is mandatory.
