It only happens once a year and no real underwater photographer should miss it. The mating of many underwater creatures in the Northern Red Sea and our annual DIGIDEEP Red Sea Expedition. Everything But The Fish - A different door to underwater photography

This article shall introduce you to some unconventional underwater photography by our member and friend Sharon Rainis. The idea for this article is a result of my curiosity, as I was inspired and very pleased by the photographs of Sharon in our weekly photo contest. I wanted to know more about her motivation, the ideas behind the photographs and how she did it. Sharon was kind enough to answer my questions with a complete article, that you are about to read. We personally met Sharon this year in Eilat, where she suddenly found herself in the position of the model rather then the photographer. Together with her Nikon D70 and Ikelite housing she became the (now famous) cover theme for our Red Sea Underwater competition 2006 live webcast. Introduction to Digital Underwater Photography

Digital photography is becoming a very popular past time for a lot of people. It’s the ease of use and the instantaneous results that makes it so interesting. A person would be forgiven for thinking that this type of sophisticated electronics would not go near the water, never mind bringing it to the beach. This is not so…. Manufactures of consumer digital cameras will most likely be producing an underwater housing for it also. These housings are affordable, small and can go to a depth of 30+ meters. This is more than enough for recreational diving. Just pop your digital camera in to the housing and dive.

Alex Mustard breaks paradigm

It began with a short note in the wetpixel forum describing a new technique. Alex started a discussion about uw-lightning with digital photography. The use of strobes to get colorful pictures has become a standard in convential underwater photography. But what happens if you just use red filters and manual whitebalance? Alex tried it and provided some awesome samples, which impressed and convinced us and other well known underwater photographers.
