Greetings all,

I’ve been lurking for a few months now, ever since I got my SCUBA cert, which was July of this year. In August I completed my Advanced Open Water cert, and in September I completed Night and National Geographic PADI specialty certs. Currently working on Rescue Diver, which will eventually lead me to Divemaster.

I’m US Navy, stationed on Guam. Been here 18 months and just starting to dive. Delay was due to settling into life back on a ship after 5 years of shore duty in Washington DC, and 2 brand new kids; 18 months and 4 months old. I drive a Mini called the Batmini (google it, I dare ya. ) and a Jeep as the wife’s daily driver for the kids and grocery shopping type stuff.

I picked up a Sony W300 seeing as how Sony has their own marine packs available. I was quickly dissapointed with the photos and the fact that the lens housing blocks the flash… So I worked a deal with a local dive shop and got about 15% off the Sea & Sea YX-27DX strobe package which I just took out for the first time this weekend. I am definitely an amatuer still, but also quite pleased with the photos I’ve taken so far. I need to take my photoshop skill to the next level as well, as the shallows around here often have less than optimal visibility.

Oh, I also need some help on identifying stuff from time to time… I’ve got a video of a critter up in the Fish ID section of the forums if someone knows about worms. Going to share some of my other photos to finish off my intro.

Hi,

My name is Wyvern i have been hanging around the site quite a bit recently and here i am signing up.

I have been diving for 9 years now but only started taking photos in 2005 when i bought a sealife reefmaster which apart from the very small screen size and low resolution was a fairly good starter camera, also having 2 external strobes was nice.

I now dive with a Canon Ixus 900ti in an ikelite housing to which i plan to add a DS-160 strobe in a few months.

I have now shared up my photobox albums so here they are:

Looking forward to learning a lot off you guys.

I am looking after at uw-housing and camera, wich takes good video, but also is very compact, so that i might mount it on the side of my head while diving.

Housing should be waterproof to 60 meters or something like that.
Video should be good in low light enviroment
Cheap is good..

I have been looking at a lot of products, but havent found the perfect product yet - anyone can help me with this setup ?

Hiya,

First time on these forums for me. I’m trying to track down a German photographer called Helmut Theiss who won a competition at the turn of the year with a very pretty photograph of a seahorse sitting in front of a sea pen. Very nice work, and I’d like to showcase it in my magazine. So Helmut - if you’re reading - please get in touch by emailing simon at dive dot uk dot com and we’ll get your picture published.

All the best,

for me, considering I have logged 100 dives and only about 40 with a camera, did my 100th dive in the Red Sea in Feb this year( that was the last time I was really in the water :(( ). But being a bit cheeky, I decided to enter one or two competitions, Big ones, the GDT “European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007” and came away with Highly Commended.there were some absolutely beautiful photos at the festival exhibition in Lünen, Germany.
Then came Antibes just for a laugh, of course I didnt win anything, But!, I received an email from a French journalist asking about one of my photos that was being used as part of a promotion packet, and see there, it was in a slide show with photos from Michael Aw, Charles Hood, Franco Banfi, Felipe Barrio, and few more great names, that for me was a great honour. This made me a bit noisy and I found two more photos ( Loinfish and an Anemonen fish) on the official HP from Antibes. Anyway thats about it really I think it was a great year.

So jetzt muss ich meine Graue Starr entfernen lassen :((

Hi all!

My name is Shaff & I’m a Scuba diving instructor from the Republic of Maldives. I started taking photos a few years back as a hobby. I never thought of entering any competitions as I thought all my photos won’t even make it anywhere. My family, friends and also my students always tells me how good my photos are and that I should enter a competition. Last month I entered the first photo competition organised by the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board and won the competition. I submitted 5 photos to the underwater category and came 1st and 2nd. And then won the ‘Best of the Show’. It was a big surprise to me because I took all the photos using an Olympus 5060WZ. Now I’ve got an Ikelite housing and strobes for my Nikon D50 DSLR. I hope I can learn a lot from the professional or amateur photographers in DigiDeep. Wish me luck.
