I am going to buy an Ikelite housing for my new Nikon D7000.

Very soon i am going to Hongkong, so thought it might be cheaper to buy it there.

Does anyone know a dive shop in Hongkong that might have that kind of equipment?

Hi All,

I have a Canon 350D and want to take it underwater….

Firstly, would it be better to get a housing for this old camera (there aren’t that many housings for it out there anymore, and not sure about the quality, age, etc of the one’s on sale), or should I rather fork out some extra cash and buy a new cam, with housing?

I have identified a Nimar 303D on ebay, but it’s a bit confusing. It says that it houses anything from a string of Nikon’s to a whole list of Canon’s. Can this be? Or are there different ones and I need to find out which one they are selling?

if you use a OLYMPUS DSLR underwater, speak English, and use it in an underwater housing please show up here and let us know the details about your rig. The idea is to gather something like a digital underwater photography usergroup that can share user experience and advice that is typical for this brand of camera and lenses. Of course third party lenses are welcome into the discussion, too!

I must admit, that I have only occasional experience with OLYMPUS DSLR systems.
I have shot the E-330 in an original Olympus housing underwater during a testival.
I personally own a compact OLYMPUS m:ju 725 camera and housing, but that does
qualify me as a long run poster in this thread. I hope more experience users will
show up here.

Do Ikelite housings ever go on sale? Need housing for my Sony A55

I bought a new Sony A55 DSLR this summer and have been patiently waiting to see if the Ikelite housing will drop from its lofty $1,500 price tag (without the dome port) not to mention the new strobe I’ll need to buy.

That’s a lot of coin for something with a one year warranty.

Welcome any info on finding a discounted/wholesale Ikelite or quality alternative housings.

Hello. I only snorkel. I have gone from an Olympus waterproof digital (2007)- couldnt see the screen very well, to a Canon compact in Canon Housing - and again not good. again visibility using the screen only and I find the buttons too close and not easy to use. Then I went to a DSLR -a Canon 450D EOS in Ikelite housing with wide angle lens and 8 inch port. Sometimes really great other times not so. This latest set up is very heavy to lug around and a real pain going through immigration. However I love my camera and lens.

I have a bifocal mask so I can see the screen better. I am nearly 60 so need to see ok! I do like a viewfinder as I can get the camera up close to try and reduce too much light if I can’t duck dive enough etc.

So am trying to decide what to do. Issues for me is being able to see, having a decent sized viewfinder, maybe magnified extenal viewfinder and the issue of weight, easy to use -ie change the iso, the wb, the av and tv and bulkiness.

Do I go to say a metal housing and say 6 inch port if this would be compatible-wide angle lens is a Canon 10-22mm- would this reduce the weight and have a smaller handle?
Would getting a housing with additional external magnified viewfinder be helpful?

Or do I go back to a decent compact with a viewfinder -are there any housings for compacts ie Canon g12 that you can put an external viewfinder on needs to have really good wide angle, I’d like f stop 2.8 to higher than F8 - ie F13/, ISo 80/100 TO 800 - and issue of noise. And if I do need at some point a strobe - that it is ttl and] not too heavy.

I just got the new D60 and it is, as I expected a very good camera.

I can’t wait to dive with it and I have found at least three options for it (one has already my favour but I won’t say which yet) :

> Ikelite D40

find out whather or not i should get an ikelite or a nimar?
I heard a few bad things from ikelite so is that an okay with nimar? there was this famous dude named pipin or some thing. he’s a professinal diver and would nimar, i guess thats quality proof right?

I am a snorkeller and duck dive a bit but not very deep. I am thinking of getting a new
camera and housing. I have a Canon DSLR Rebel xti 400d. I need to see the viewfinder
and have a decent LCD screen. I have been using Canon powershot s60 and housing
and too much reflection to see much with a very small LCD screen and tiny viewfinder.

How good is the Canon housing optical viewfinder and LCD screen size and brightness
compared to the Ikelite optical viewfinder and LCD screen for the DSLR Canon Rebel xti 400d?
Or would there be a better housing?
Do I need to get an external strobe? Also suggested I get 10-17 mm port and lens.
What would be the most affordable options here?

I have also wondered about compacts - the Canon G10 -which has optical viewfinder,
but cant find out much about it - again which housing is better for the opitcal viewfinder
- Canon or Ikelite and how bright is the LCD? Would it be useful to get wide angle lens
and also strobe?

I also wondered about Sea and Sea DC1000 with various strobe, wide angle lens and
also snorkel setting?

I just want to ensure that the money I spend I can see what I am doing. I am getting
bifocals in my mask to maximize seeing well!

Any advice would be much appreciated.
