Canon S5 IS - Blurred Image/ Purple/Pinkish/Black: CCD problem

I had purchased Canon S5 IS through Amazon.com from US in month of April 08. I came back to India after that and only have taken less than 100 pics so far.
I took some photos on 13th June 08 and then suddenly all i see was blurred purple pinkish image through the eye piece or LCD.

This Camera has never been dropped or mishandled. It is stored in a good camera bag with hanging support so camera never gets banged around.

As warranty was not valid in India as purchase country was US, I took it to authorized Canon service center in Gurgaon (India).

They took my camera and said will charge Rs 1000/- as repair service charge and if any part replacement need to be done will charge extra for that plus service tax.
After 2 days when i got my camera they told me that CCD has been replaced, and no charges have been made. Though I have to pay repair charges of Rs 1000 + service tax. Total money I paid was Rs Rs 1123/-

I was not able to understand how a new camera had CCD problem and if replaced why was I was not charged. Though the person at reception said CCD had some dust on it.

But at last my camera is working but I am really dissatisfied with Canon as never thought a new camera can go wrong.

If anyone can let me know if they have experienced same

Another “what should I buy thread” - please help me!

Hi everybody.

I am going to buy a new compact digital camera, and I obvioulsy want one with an underwater housing. I have been looking at the Ixus 85/90 series, however, I would like to have any suggestions. I must admit that I feel that it should be a Canon, Nikon, Olympus or Sony camera.

It has to be rather small (Ixus size preferably) and preferably with manual white balance. Furthermore, I would like to know if wet lenses and external flashes are available to what ever you suggest me buying. Please giv me some pros and cons of the different systems!

Hope that you can and will help me through the jungle of buying new equipment

Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Mikkel

The new Ricoh GX200!!

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me out here!
Ricoh are releasing their new GX200 to replace the GX100 which was released last year. When the GX100 came out last April, Sea & Sea stamped their name on it and created an underwater housing for it and sold it as a package (which is called the Sea & Sea DX-1G).
Can anyone tell me if the new GX200 fits into the underwater housing of the DX-1G?
Cheers,
Owen.

Olympus C-5000 or C-5050 ?

I will be going on my honeymoon to the Virigin Islands in the fall. I have a C-5050, and was hoping to find a PT-015 housing clearance somewhere, but haven’t had any luck. Apparently, new Olympus PT-015 housings were going for ~$50 on eBay about a half year ago. I missed the boat. So, I just picked up a new PT-019 housing on eBay for $30, and am trying to find a used C-5000 in good shape.

So my big question is...Should I buy a used C-5000, or spring some extra money for an Ikelite housing or a PT-015 (if I can find one) for my C-5050? After forking out a good bit of money for our honeymoon, I am looking to spend as little as possible on an underwater rig, and still come away with some decent pictures.

What route should I take?

Thanks in advance for any help

First time underwater will be my Honeymoon. What do I do?

I recently purchased a new Olympus PT-019 housing and a slightly used Olympus C-5000 camera. It was the best bang for the buck that I could find. I will be using it on my honeymoon in St. John (USVI) this fall.

So what is the best way to clean the camera and keep spots off the lens portal on the casing. We will be doing a lot of snorkeling, and won’t have immediate access to fresh water to wash the casing after our “dives” (very shallow dives, at that ). So what would you recommend? Should I bring a water bottle to give it a rinse on the beach, then when we get back to the cottage, give it a nice bath in fresh water?

My other question has to do with the O-ring. The camera housing I purchased is new, but it’s obviously an older model. It’s probably been sitting around a warehouse for a while. So will the O-ring need to be replaced up front, or should it be in good shape until the housing is used in the elements? What about lubricating it with the silicone gel? To my eyes, the O-ring appears to be in good shape out of the box.

Please excuse my ignorance. I think I’m a pretty capable photographer on land, but underwater is new territory for me.

Thanks.

I recently bought a Fisher (I think its made by Panasonic?) FVD-C1 Digital Movie Camera @ Frys on clearance. It was a display model. It had no Battery and no Cradle with it. I thought it would be so easy to just go out and find a cheap battery for it and a replacement cradle and I would be so happy and life would be so grand......I was WRONG. I cant find either one ANYWHERE and every electronic store I have been in doesnt even sell this thing anymore. Do any of you have any idea of where I can go to get atleast the battery? I would appriciate any help you could give me cause I have gotten nowhere on this so far. (I went to go post this message & I almost didnt realize I had typed #### instead of FAR. But I caught it...thought it was funny.) Thank you for any help!!

Underwater Casing (40 Meters) for Casio EX-Z57 (Exilim)

Hi there,

I am interested to get an underwater casing (40 meters) for EX-Z57.
From the internet, it seem that EWC-55 underwater casing for EX-Z55 can also use for EX-Z57,
as the difference between EX-Z55 and EX-Z57 is only the screen size, the rest should be the same, kindly advice.

Also pls advice where can I purchase 1 unit.

thks.

rgds,

Hi all

This is my first post, anyway am thinking of buying an Inon fisheye UFL-165AD to use with my fuji f11,my question is are they any good? Does anybody here have any pics taken with this lens? Do wide angle wet lenses give depth of field with compact cameras? Like most budding u/w photographers would love to upgrade to slr but i simply cannot justify the cost.
Hope someone can help

Underwater housing for Casio Exilim ex-z77

Hi everybody!
I have bougth the Casio Exilim ex-z77
I have a question, is the CASIO - EWC-11 underwater housing really for 40m/131ft? Because in the front, you can read this:3m/10ft.
In this site appears like a 40m/131ft, is this a type error?
Does exist any waterproof case for 40m/131ft for this camera?

thank you!!
