I Use a Canon D60
if money permits this year I will get a new body and work on a housing also
I use my Canon in a Sea and Sea Housing DX30/60
with 2 lenses 15mm Canon Fisheye and Canon 100mm USM macro lense
my lighting is a single Sea and Sea YS 120
I have the Sea and Sea small dome and a flat port.
The camera has been with me for i’d say 4-5 years but has only been diving for 2 !
Hi Everybody
I changed from Nikon (film) last April and bought a Canon 5D. I stuck with Aquatica as I had all the ports etc from my film setup. I dive mainly in Scotland and primarily do macro work using a Sigma 50mm and a Canon 100mm. Both are excellent although the Sigma is a bit noisy when focussing (a known feature of this lens). I also have a Canon 17/40 zoom for occasional wide angle work and despite many comments I have read about its limitations on a full frame camera, I am well pleased. I never open it up more than f8 and rarely go wider than 20mm and find it delivers very sharp, punchy images.
I do everything on manual and use two Nikon SB 105 flashes.
The Canon 5D has blown me away - quality is outstanding - looks like medium format film to me.
welcome to the board and thanks for your comments on your canon setup.
I like the pictures on your homepage. The fish portraits are great
hope to see more of them..
after some time with compact now decided to rape my bank account and buy a DSLR.
i invested in a EOS 30D with the new INON X2 housing with 45degree viewfinder. because i was happy with INON products until now. and because of the magnetic focus port, that lets you use the focus like topside ... its magic
i use the EF-S 60mm makro with a INON closeup wetlens (ucl 165M67) that can be srewed on the inonport and a Tokina 10-17mm with the INON Dome 2 with extension S ...
strobes of course INON as well (d2000)
i just bought everything brandnew in japan and cant wait to use.
Please help me ... I would like to buy a fisheye for my EOS 350D but i don’t know what type....
The first one a 8mm fisheye from SIGMA and the second is a 15 mm sigma.
Please help me the choice.
Thank you
Balage....
I would just like to out myself as a Canon user, too (guess what).
I used the EOS 350D for a while now and just upgraded to the 5D.
No underwater pictures available yet.
@Balage: If you go for a Fisheye Lense the only true fisheye on
a 350D would be the 10-17 Tokina Zoom Fisheye. Balage, did you
know that the 8mm (circular) Fisheye will give you a black corner
around the circle that is not fully visible on a crop camera? You
should investigate the 15mm SIGMA and Tokina 10-17mm more.
I’ve just upgraded to an Canon 400D from my old solution Canon S40 + UWH and Sea & Sea Digital Strobe. In terms of photography this is quite a step upwards. As being a “Canon guy” I thought this would be a good thread to start.
I’m thinking of getting an Ikelite house and strobe solution - however it seems there’s no port to support my 55-200mm macro lens. What macro lens is supported by Ikelite? Can anyone help? I must admit that this “port” system is a bit confusing to me.
Hi Soeren
I think you would be well advised to consider a new macro lens. The short end of your current lens is fine but the long end would be very difficult to use underwater. With the 1.6 crop factor of your camera plus the magnification of the water, you would be placed too far away from a subject and the large water column would degrade image quality. Buying a large port for a lens of this size would be a waste of money in my view (assuming you can get one) and make your rig bulky for no purpose. If you can spring the cash, think about getting a Canon 60mm macro which is a super lens and goes right down to 1:1 repro. On the Canon 400D it is effectively a 96mm lens - and maybe 25% more than that when water magnification is taken into account. That is fine for blue water photography but it would be too much if you dive murky green water like me. A Sigma 50mm (also 1:1) would provide a bit shorter focal length and also be a little cheaper.
Jim
my personal fave is the 100mm ... macro usm ...
it works great in the tropics where i live, and
unless you are diving in really bad visibility the
distance between subject and lense will never
cause image quality to be bad from sediment.
it would always be my base macro lense as I can
get farther away in good visibility for not so close
macro shots and really close for super macro if
thats what i want to be shooting.
