There has to be a story behind this ship wreck !!

The ropes look new .. and the sail is still intact .. was it for a festival or something ?

Well as far as I know that is an anicent ship that they found I guess in Turkey, build a copy of it and sunk it again in some sort of underwaterpark.
I just heard rumors, but I hope the Fotographer can tell us more?!?

I think it’s a great image just sad that there are ropes in the foreground!
But well donne.

cheers

good job caner, nice photo from a fellow countryman smile

this is a replica of the Lycian trade ship, known as the Uluburun wreck, which hit the rocks and sunk about 3300 years ago 8.5 km off the coast of Kas/Turkey. it was discovered in 1982 by a commercial sponge diver and its excavation took about 11 years. it is the world’s oldest ship wreck known today. you can see another replica of this ship and some of its contents at The Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, Turkey.

the ship you see in the photo is at 18 meters depth and it is 14 meters by 5. it was recently sunk on purpose in Hidayet Bay, close to Kas, to serve as an ‘Archeo-Park’, which will be used in training underwater archeologists. from what i can tell, the wreck is open to public and diving tours are operating there. go check it out!

hope this helps, let me know if you need more info.

It is a very nice story - Thanks for sharing!

@Lars: we should add the option to assign certain POTW-Photos to threads
like these, as we can already do it with News-Items and Articles, I think.
