Ikelite introduces a new dome port. Is a bigger dome port always better?

Hi Lars,

I see the following pros & cons:

PROS:

[u:e1e8d4b9d7]Big Dome[/u:e1e8d4b9d7]:Good Corner sharpness, easy to get any lense sharp and good for half and half… My experience is that this is the case with 18cm or more..
[u:e1e8d4b9d7]Small Dome[/u:e1e8d4b9d7]: Has to be computed precisely but if it’s working it is so nice to handle something lightweight and compact underwater.

CONS:

[u:e1e8d4b9d7]Big Dome[/u:e1e8d4b9d7]: positvely boyant, will drag your lense upwards
[u:e1e8d4b9d7]Small Dome[/u:e1e8d4b9d7]: Prone to edge distortion if not positioned 1000% correct.

I use a canon 10-22mm lens on my 300D.
(off topic- this lens sux for assembling to ikelite housing as the lens is too wide to fit through. so i need to assemble the body, then assemble the lens outside the body. each time i need to change battery or cards, i need to seperate the lens from the body again. not a good idea to be doing too often while its attached to housing)

I think this lens port has been continued by ikelite only because of public demand.  They stated before that their optics on their existing ports were fine.
The over and under shots was mentioned as a benifet to this new lens port.  But @ $400 !!!!  ...give me a break!!

Ill still probably buy it though LOL

I’m planning to buy the 8” dome and Canon 10-22.  Did you ever buy the dome.  Any new opinions?
