Hi,
Back in the 80-90’s, I used to be an UW scuba photographer, using Nikonos and Housing systems for film cameras. I recently, brought out of storage, one of my nikonos cameras to use in a freediving competition, held in Dahab, Egypt.
Now, as a freediver/spearfisherman, I would like to attach the smallest UW digital video camera available, on myself, or, attached to a speargun.
This way I can record actual events as it happens. Naturally, this camera would have to have a large size hard disc, in order not to compromise its size, as well as, say, a 2hr battery, a wide angle field of vision(28mm,or less), waterproof to 60m, and reasonably priced .

Has anyone come up with such a gizmo???  tongue rolleye

Hi,

I think you will not get much support for spearfishing in this board.
Actually I would appreciate it, if you re-think one part of your hobby.

Hello Andi,

I appreciate and respect your view on the matter. However my passion for photography is a s strong as for spearfishing. And I’m sure you know that spearos do much less damage to reefs and ecosystems, than commercial fisherman. I, also hunt only to fullfill my immediate needs, and concentrate on the pelagic, which is tastier. Nothing beats fresh fish, especially, raw!! Sorry, man!

Hi Ash…

As a freedive photographer and spearo, I must concur with Andi’s post - only about the part about the support to spearfishing though.
As a matter of fact I’ve seen so many ignorant posts regarding spearfishing in the photography forums I am already tired of explaining. I used to explain that spearfishing actually accounts for 0.1-0.3 percent of the total catch and I don’t buy commercial fish and obey strictly all bag and size limits and love the sea just as much as the non fishing guys do… Without great success.. smile
However it turns out that the anti-spearing folk actually love fish - they just prefer to close their eyes and not think where it’s coming from. smile
Makes you think why should I defend myself when I am not doing anything wrong!? So nowadays I have squeezed up my answers to: “Hush up unless you’re a veggie, otherwise it makes you a hypocrite and a supporter of commercial overfishing!”! smile

As for your camera, one of the best solutions I’ve seen is offered by Trygons at http://www.trygons.com
A bit expensive though.

Drop me a PM if I can be of further assistance.

Cheers!
