Hi
I am planning to buy a E500, but i am afraid:
Will be a little dificult for me to buy E300 and a housing for it, at the same time, so it will have to wait until the end of the year to buy it.
I am affraid that may be no avaliable housings for E500 (in the end of the year)...or, at least, the cheap ones (like ikelite and 10bar..)
Does anyone have experience with E500?
thanks a lot

fernando

Hi Helge and Fernando,

two infos which might be interesting to both of you and all other OLYMPUS lovers. First: Olympus is rumored to come out with a successort model to the E330. Maybe a mix between E330 and E500 if you are looking for the latest camera. I bet it also has the LCD-Feature that everybody is buzzing around with 8)

Second info: No Hugyfot housing will ever be sold out. If you accept 4-6 Weeks delivery time they are the only company I know which can mill just one housing upon request. The sad news on the other hand is that they will not give you any discounts for this work, which you might find with various other manufacturers who have to get rid of their stock when a product is going to be outdated soon.

Just my 2 cents wink * Andi

PS: We are still waiting for a more technical review of the Aquamir Housing from you for our site  We know you could do that very well.

he he he the problem is that i don´t know if I would like taking picutes with the LCD monitor. I read about e330..but i think I prefeer the “old style”. And ou can buy E500 with 14-15mm for less than 600 USD. With more 160 you i can ge the nice 50mm macro f2.8..so with les than 750 i get an interesthing wide angle and a nice macro. E330 cost more than 900,00 with only the 14-45..
Do you think is possible to find an used E500 housing?

Hi!

I was afraid of using the LCD only in the beginning. I couldn’t imagine to do so but since I’ve got the E-330 (in a UK-GERMANY housing) I learned to love it. It has its advantages. I don’t know if I can withstand the coming top model of the E-Series but I already know that I won’t get a comparable comfortable way of taking uw shots at a comparable amount of money.

@ Andi: what’s bad about the name “E-400”? It is a great (and amazingly small) camera. The image processor has been overhauled and the weakness in high ISO (for which Olympus was well known for) seems to be overcome. The E-400 is hust the tip of the mountain. There’s a series of similar camera bodies planned that will be available worldwide. I expect 3 more bodies within this year.

Olympus already provides a housing for the E-400 (which is a risky thing for the European market only). It shows clearly the dedication to uw-photography. It also give some hint that it might fit more than one camera in the future.

Helge wink=)
