Hi,

if you use a Nikon DSLR underwater, speak English, and use it in an underwater housing please show up here and let us know the details about your rig. The idea is to gather something like a digital underwater photography usergroup that can share user experience and advice that is typical for this brand of camera and lenses. Of course third party lenses are welcome into the discussion, too!

I must admit that I am not a frequent Nikon user, though. However I have shot
the Nikon D70 camera and D100 on several occassions for tests with different housings
and I like the very much.

You are invited to introduce your rig in this space and bomb everyone with questions…

Looking forward to read that.

I have a Nikon D200, in a Hugyfot Housing (before that the D200 was in an Ikelite housing) I started dSLRs with a Nikon D70 in an Ikelite housing. But used a Nikon 8400 in an Ikelite Housing for awhile.

I use a D70s setup with a Ikelite housing and a DS125 strobe. Currently using Nikkor 60mm Macro with Flat port, and recently extended my setup with a Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye lens with an 8” dome port. I will experiment fisheye photography with Magic Filters next month in Bonaire, Dutch Antilles.

Do you have hints and tricks using a single strobe for Fisheye purposes or do I need to buy another strobe :( as well ???

Have a nice easter!

Hi:

I am about to buy a Light & Motion Titan d100.

Does anyone know why they are now discontinued?

Thanks

Just because the camera (Nikon D100) is not sold anymore.
The new model Titan D200 from L&M;just was released this
month and is the follow-up on the previous housing.

I bought a D80 several days ago and ordered the Ikelite housing with several ports yesterday!  Hopefully it will arrive from the USA in several weeks time.  If not, the box jellyfish start to swim soon and it puts off diving for a month or so… :-(

I’ve been using a D70s in an Ikelite housing for just over a year now; I have 2 Sea & Sea YS90 strobes (a TTL and a DX), but I typically only use one. My main lens is a Nikkor 12-24, though I’ve experimented with an 18-55 since I don’t have any macro gear yet; the 18-55 has a shorter minimum focus distance, so it’s hit & miss....
It’s a great rig, smallish and lightweight compared to colleagues’ Sea&Sea;& Aquatica housings - but can still be a pain for local (Monterey/Carmel) shore diving. Oh well. Over time I’ve managed to scratch up the dome port, but it doens’t seem to affect image quality.
I managed to win (for category) the Shark Trust (UK)’s recent photo competition, as well as an additional honorable mention, so the rig seems to be doing alright…
wink

For some examples, check out my Beqa, Fiji and Isla Guadalupe sets at Flickr:

Thx, cheers,

Hey fellow californical diver!  Was checking out your gallery, looks like you dive monastery beach.  That exit can’t be good for your port!

I’ve had to completely rebuild my reg, dismantlle and clean my BC inflator, and/or pretty much go through every piece of equipment I own after a few dives there.

I’ve Just received my Nikon D 90, with Kit 18-105 and Micro 105 VR lens. I’m planning to buy a super wide-zoom /fisheye lens (possibly 10.5 fisheye or tokina 10-17) I will no doubt get an UW housing, currently on hold untill the new Hugyfot housing will be released and I’ll have ample time to review it.

Another option is the Patima housing. The Ikelite Housing is not an option for me as I have bad experience on my previous rigs.

I have one Ikelite ds 125 and a nikonos 105.

I hope to have the rig complete as soon as possible.
any reccomendations on the wide angle lens and the housing?
