I just have a small comment on the “picture of the week” arrangement. As voting starts before uploading has closed, this means that some people acually vote before all contributions have been made available. I several cases, this has ment to me that I have spent my vote, only to find a better candidate for my vote when it is too late.

Why not collect images for a week at a time, and then open up for voting at the beginning of the following week.

Anyway, thanks for a great website, I really use it a lot!  LOL

Cheers!

Ingvar

Hi Ingvar,

1. thanks for the flowers!  8)

2. the dillema:

digideep.com has now around 5.000 page impressions per day and approx. 3000 visitors per week. But this results only in around 50 potw votes (per week). However, you see that there is large portion of people voting who are just passing by. If we would reduce the time window for the voting there will be even less votes and the final result will be less representative. Which Lars an I would like to avoid…

a small solution:

..at least for the participants is that you can already upload pictures for the next week on sundays. By this you make shure that your picture collects any possible vote right from the start of the week… “The early bird catches the worm!”

outlook:

If we change something, I would prefer a solution in which we extend the period for collecting next weeks pictures. For example stop adding new pictures on saturdays. But I’d like to hear everyones opinion on this first.... Or maybe you have even a better idea :?  . Or just like everything as it is ...  LOL

Hi Andi and Ingvar,

what about a howto for the potw contest.
Submitters: Please submit as early as possible
Voters: If you want to make sure that you were able to see all candidate pictures, return next saturday ....

Andi,
what about posting pictures for several weeks in advance. (I’d start posting mine as soon as Eric’s fantastic Bahamas collection is fully posted   )

So you never want to publish on our site again?
But answering the serious part of your question: YES,
technically it is already possible to submit several pictures
in advance. Just use the submit form a second time and
your photo will be automatically added to the future weeks.
There is no limit… so you can redo this procedure as many
times as you like, depending how many weeks in the future
want to reserve for your participation.

:!: By the way,.. Eric has not submitted anything for the next
week, yet. If he continues to post his Armageddon Trip Pictures
I am afraid Lars & I have to disqualify him temporally for being
to good and scaring away the other participants LOL  LOL

I don’t think that there is much wrong with the sytem at the minute ... but .. ha right always a but

I posted some suggestions somewhere else under Photo of the Week Discussion.

But .. #### there it is again.
What about if Voting was for members only, so the forum logon was for the entire site, and then users registered could vote only for official potw results, and if it is not way to complicated guests can vote but only unofficially so there are two results. sort of. With this you could have comments per photo voted on (like at dpchallenge.com)
It would also enhance the whole community feel as the votes would be trusted and known users of digideep.

Oh and i was wondering, the check boxes when submitting a photo for eCards, and News Letter ... are they just surveying at the minute or can we do eCards and New’s letters on here ?

Hi Giles,

about the surveying… Yes you are right :D But next thing to come is eCards. I will install something, which offers a Link “tell a friend” on the bottom of each page. This will launch the eCard module. However, many good pictures were not allowed to be used as an eCard :( . But it has to be respected.

Cu, Andi

I think that is a great idea.

I also think that more people would be willing to do the photo as an eCard if they got accreditation for it. Something simple.
And there has to be a way of protecting the images or at least having them used only at web viewing quality so reproduction is not possible.

To be honest I didn’t tick the box just because I didn’t know where it was going, or what was happening as I hadn’t seen any end result.
