porcupine fish :: why did it blow up?

dear dennis,

the picture looks great. but can you please provide more information on how this porcupine fish decided to blow up? usually they just to it under emmense stress and have a high chance of not surviving their defence. in most cases they die of a heart attack. :oops:

That is completely true .. it’s not nice to do that to a porupine fish ... but the amount of photos you see with it happening it must get done a lot.

If i saw a puffer fish doing this i would guarentee you though i would try to get a snap .. but i would not make one inflate due to the risk on their health.

(i have actually tried to do it a few times i hate to say .. but i have never been able to do it)

I was very atonished to find this picture in the contest .
I’m always very careful with porcupine fish and I should be very sad if I founded one in such a poor situation ;
