week 2004.42 :: Long fin BANNERfish

I just found out that the name of the fish I captured is “long fin BANNERfish” instead of “long fin BUTTERfish”, as I’ve written down. A butterfish looks totally different (kind of like a small moray eel), so I guess it matters a lot..

Isn’t your fish actually a Moorish Idol, like Gil in “Finding Nemo” ?

Nice pic, these guys are hard to catch on film as they are always moving!

Nick,

You’re so very right! As I searched for Moorish Idol on the net, I found out that the main difference between this fish and the bannerfish is the mouth, which is small and flat within bannerfish, and much larger and stuck out in moorish idol. Since the fish in my picture has a large piece of mouth, it must be an Moorish Idol, as you suggested.
