I’m aware of the shallow water case for this model (AW-DC30) and there are deep water cases for the SD500 (WP-DC70) as well as the S400, S410 & S500 (WP-DC800).

But is anyone aware of a deep water case compatible with my model?

Best,
JH

I’m looking for the same (well, SD300).  A little annoyed by the fact that they don’t make a deep water case for this.  I don’t see what the difference is in the case in the SD200-400 and the SD500 that makes one just an all weather and the other a water proof to 130 feet.  If anyone has any idea of any case that would even work half of the buttons to the SD300-400, i’d be up for it over buying a whole nother camera and case just for scuba diving.

Totally agree.
In some areas the SD400 is known as IXUS 50.
The WP-DC800 is compatible with the S400 (also known as IXUS 500 - I think canon needs some more consitency with names - it is confusing), which looks very similar to the SD400 .
I have asked canon.sg more information, but I’m not holding my breath. It is unbelievable that the Ixus 30/40/50 lack a deep underwater housing whereas most other models (even much older, even with basically identical body) have it!

I’m also looking for a housing for the Canon SD400. I’ve sent an email to Ikelite, and they responded within 5 minutes… Yeah! But they don’t make a case for this camera. I’ve sent an email to Canon Canada and Canon USA, they haven’t responded yet.

Does anyone know of a compatible case? I’ve found a waterproof housing by Canon (which is only rated at 3 metres), but what I want is a housing that can go to 30 metres.

Any leads would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

I am looking for the same thing. I have contacted Canon but all I got was “we are constantly updating products so check back regularly...blah blah blah” It really makes no sense to make a waterproof case that only goes to 3 meters. But they do call it an “All weather case” instead of an “waterproof case” I think the best bet would be to go to a store that has many cases available and see if the SD400 will fit any of them. I can tell just by looking online that they all are very similiar. I think I will do that when I get my camera (I just bought one online)
but if anyone beats me to it, please post your results.

Hi you may try to ask Equinox/Bonica. They have a fairly standard housing,
which can be customized to a certain camera. They told me last year on the
dema, that they try to customize even for a single camera.

The WP-DC70 is for the SD500 but does anyone know if the SD400 would work in this housing? The dimensions of the SD400 are slightly smaller in length, height, and width and the button configuration is identical (Except for the play/video/camera mode button which I wouldn’t be switching while diving anyway).

Has anyone tried this? I’m trying to find a local shop that has the WP-DC70 in stock so I can take my camera in to see for myself.

Any updates on this?  I’m really frustrated that I can’t use my SD400 for scuba.

Unfortunately not, yet. You can register at this page. Then we will inform you
as soon as we know about a housing for that camera.

hey guys,

if you could wait for 2 more weeks i can check on that. i have an SD500 that i use underwater and i bought an SD400 as a gift for my family. I’ll be seeing them in two weeks and i guess i can see if the Canon casing for SD500 is compatible with SD400 to a certain degree. One thing for sure you won’t be able switch between shooting, playback and movie modes during diving.

being a purist, i’ll make sure that SD400 fits well and you can actually take pictures. i can even post pictures here showing you guys the configuration. i don’t wanna be sloppy and make you guys waste your money on that. you can trust me on that one.

i’ll keep you posted, in the meantime have some patience people LOL .

cheers,
seber

hi guys,

sorry this took a while but i tried my SD500 case with SD400. here s the verdict:

a) SD400 fits nicely into WP-DC70 case.
b) there is not a single button that functions, i.e. locations of buttons for these two cameras are not coincident.
c) if you are really gifted mechanically, you can modify ‘shutter’ , ‘func. set’ , ‘disp’, ‘macro’ and maybe ‘menu’ buttons and ‘zoom’ control (you probably don’t need this underwater). but i’m afraid that these modifications may stress the water seals of the buttons in time.
d) i don’t think you can do anything about the sliding ‘mode change’ button, i.e. photo vs video vs display. you have to set this to video or photo before diving unless you just wanna check out previously shot photos underwater smile.
e) my humble opinion, since prices have dropped so much on SD500, i’d rather buy it. i really like my SD500, and i’ve been using it for the last 2 years. or better i’d rather buy A620, a camera of good quality and full manual controls, also very cheap with CANON underwater case. you can probably buy the set for 400-450$ in USA.

regards,
seber
