It’s not an anenome,and they are quite common rather than unexpected. It’s actually a tunicate or sea quirt, which is thought to be closely related to vertabrates like ourselves. Latin Name I believe is ‘Clavelina lepadiformis’ i don’t know if the colourations make a difference or if that is just local camoflage variations.
But about the photo, it doesn’t stand out in the photograph either, the lighting and framing create a very flat image which means my eyes don’t know where to look as there is no real subject.
here is a good example of how to emphasise this sort of subject
get down below the subject, shoot upwards, shut the exposure down, and make your strobe come from above more than aimed at the subject in order to create a nice black background for contrast.
