8" Dome Port moves slightly. Is that right?

Hy to everyone!
I just got my 8” Dome Port for a DSLRCamera (Nikon D70), fixed it on the housing and made the first test, that’s the housing+port without camera in the bathtube. Everything’s right, no water inside the housing. Now I’m thinking about testing it in a swimmingpool, at a depth of 2-3 meters. BUT, and that’s the question, when I press slightly on the sides of the dome I feel the complete Dome moving (or balancing) a little bit backwards at the side I press (backwards to the housing). I suppose I’m compressing the O-Ring, but what will happen if I’m 20 o 30 or 40metres underwater? Is that normal? As you see I’m new to underwater photography and proportionally scared of flooding my equipment.
Any answer to this, I hope absurd question? Thank’s very much to everyone!

What type of housing? this might be helpful so someone who has this housing can give advise. My custom housing has a fixed port that does not move. My aquatica housing has not arrived as yet so i can not speak for it.

Hmmm, I thought that posting at the Ikelite Fourm would mean that I was talking about an Ikelite housing. Isn’t there an Aquatica Forum? Maybe not. In any case, the underwater housing I’m talking about is the #6807.1, specifically designed for the Nikon DSLR D70/D70s. The dome is, of course, also the Ikelite 8” Dome. There’s only one model. As I said there’s a certain play at the sides of the dome. If I press on the Dome side, the dome moves/flexes back, maybe 2 or 3mm. I made yesterday evening a test at the pool (about 2-3 under water) and I couldn’t find any problem. Everything was right so the next stage will be at sea (without camera inside) at a depth of -20m. I hope everything works fine.
Thank tou very much!

OK, I did the last 10 post not by forum and it does not say what forum you posted on, just a caption… Yes the right thing to do is a test dive. Bring your back up camera because you know you will miss the best shot of your life hen ou don’t have a working camera. I also have a domed port for a ikelite housed video camera but no movement on it. Maybe contact Ikelite dealer and ask if this is normal for this port.

Good luck,

Number of clamps and wobble have been debated for over thirty years.  The original “push button to release” port clamps did get pushed at the wrong time occasionally like in a rinse tank or rubber boat.  The current “lift button to release” style has been in use for ten years and is fine.

Only problem is improper installation of the port with “O” ring in wrong place or insufficient lubricant on it.  It should pop down into place effortlessly, and should be held there while fastening the lid clamps which should shap into locked position.  You can see if they aren’t.  And you can look in through the housing to see a uniform looking black seal line of the “O” ring.  There is a chance the “O” ring can get pinched if you do not hold the port securely while fastening the clamps.  This is what happened to the Nikonos RS cameras when people did not fasten correctly.

The “wobble” will not cause a leak...............
