hello,

I have a Canon 20D with the Ikelite housing (including E), and a DS125 Ikelite strobe that connected to the camera with cable.

I had a chance to by a Nikonos 105 strobe, and I toke that for a test.
we put the 105 to be in slave mode, the DS125 to work without TTL (Manual 1/2, 1/4 ot 1/8) and tested in-front of a mirror.
in the Air we can saw that the 105 make a shot of light, but in the picture, we saw only the DS125 ligth.
we tried with 3 different nikonos 105, we tried with different configuration in the camera (1/25-1/250) we even tried with Ikelite DS200 as main strobe (replace the DS125), but nothing, only the DS125 light shown in the photo…

does any one have an idea why is that happen? and how can we solve the problem (without buying a new sync cable)?

Thanks
Shahar

Hi Shaharp,

what you describe sounds like an Ikelite strobe that is faster than the Nikonos V strobe.
In that case the Nikonos 105 would fire too late.

Second thought: It might also be due to a pre-flash issue. The Ike does a small
pre-flash and the Nikonos SB105 fires along with the pre-flash but is already out
when the real picture is taken.
In that case the Nikonos 105 would fire too early.

These are the two ideas I had after what you described. I hope it helps to investigate.
Please let us know once you found out what the issue was.

Cheers, Andi

Thanks,

We think (we its Noam and Me, if you remember from the SanDisk in Israel smile ), that it’s probably the pre flash.
I’m sure you are recognize the eTTL system in Ikelite, and the raw of LED in the housing. even if the DS125 is set
on manual, the eTTL LED is on in the housing, so we think that maybe there is a pre flash. In that case, is there
a way to disable the pre flash?

Thanks again
Shahar

Have a look at the flash converters of Henrich/Weikamp - combining digital camera’s with analog strobes is not that simple. He describes in more details what is possible and has some prety smart solutions. You can find more at: http://www.heinrichsweikamp.net/blitz/indexf.htm
