Hi guys,
this thread has been invaluable to me.  I had purchased the HD2 based on the quality of the videos and pictures referenced here, and yesterday I also purchased the housing from divervision.com.  Still waiting for them to send me a shipping notification, but I’m hopeful I’ll get it before my trip to Akumal next week.  If it gets here in time, I’ll try to post some sample video after I return, I plan on diving both ocean and the cenotes.

Good luck! - And don’t forget two things:
* A somewhat waterproof white sheet of paper (for adjusting the custom white balance underwater)
* A very strong diffusor for artificial lights in the Cenotes, as otherwise you’ll only have a bright spot in the middle and darkness around it. Even better, of course, would be some assistant to hold the lights.. grin

Have fun in Akumal, I go there often.  In fact was trying to go next week myself, but decided to go too late so could not find reasonable airfare :-(

Thanks folks.  All this is contingent on me getting the housing in time.  Considering that DiverVison apparently hadn’t shipped it yet, I’m getting a bit sinking feeling that I won’t have it for the trip, but I’m still hoping.

Peter:  Thanks for the suggestions, I have the UK Light Cannon, which came with a diffuser, so if can find it, I’ll bring it along.

Drew:  travelzoo.com just sent me an alert yesterday about flights to Mexico for $99.  May be worth checking out.

Hi,

How is the performance of the camera in video mode in low light….example at 35mt -40mts without any extra flash?

Thanks in advance.

Well, unfortunately the housing didn’t make it to me in time… it got delivered to my office 1.5 hours after my plane took off for Mexico.  :-(  So the underwater video will have to wait until November, when I go dive the beautiful reefs of Bonaire.  I will definitely try to post some samples at that time.  Sorry folks.

Bummer about the housing not making it in time.

Hope you otherwise had a good time down there.  I am booked to go in December and also may be going the end of September.

Right now I am keeping my fingers crossed for the area - Hurricane Dean (as of the last time I looked) is on the path to Grand Cayman and the Yucatan and Cozumel and things were getting back to normal after the hurricanes the last few years.
