Hi guys
Im new to this forum and im glad i found it.
Im also new to the UW photography but im glad i found that too smile
Got a EOS 350D with 18-55mm canon lense and here is what i am planing to get:

- Ikelite housing
http://ikelite.com/web_pages/2dslr_350d.html

- 15mm FE lense
- 100mm macro
- Domes for that lenses

I was first planing to buy Fantasea housing but then realized the only dome port for it costs like 400-500 eu so now im after the slightly more expensive Ikelite housing with many and cheaper dome ports - 160 - 200 $

Now here are some questions i have:

- is there any idea in getting flat ports instead of dome?
- TTL flash control - ?!? if anyone can explain that in simple words pls do so smile
- and last but not least what strobe set is most suitable for me?
i was thinking to get a set that contains 1 constant light (for autofocus sake) and a flash strobes - is there any reason in this?
and do i need to get strobes from Ikelite so to be suitable with the TTL control or any flash with housing will do the trick?

Apreciate all opinions and tips

Hi Pakost.

Welcome to this great forum.
There is allot of info to get here.

You will need the dome-port for the15mm.
You’ll get dark corners with a flat port.
I’m not sure about the 100macro it depends
on how long the lens is.

You don’t have to use Ikelite flash

Kenneth

(TTL flash control is that you’r camera messure
the light needed for you flash output thru the lens
instead of from the flash)

Im sory for not answering at your fast reply (for which im greatfull ) but these days are really mess for me ...
Im still in state of considering things : / altho im going for diving at greece this weekend.
theres still some things i cant understand completly
for example theres some Ikelite substrobe 100A on ebay at very temting prices
but im not sure its compatible with digital eos cameras
they are no longer manifactured so i cant see the official info about that product but at all the reviews i saw there was nothing telling its digital compatible… while for DS-51 Ikelite Substrobe it says its for digital and film cameras…
Well i hope soon will have my gear so ill be able to post some photos of mine smile
Thanks for interest smile and once again thanks for the reply :D
Happy diving

They are not TTL-capable with digital cameras but should work in manual mode.

Only Ikelite Strobes which are marked with “DS-” in front can do that.
DS stands for DIGITAL SUBSTROBE. Recently Ikelite removed all non-digital
strobes from their product line. This is why you might get affordable but old
substrobes from Ikelite on eBay. Also watch out that those are much heavier
that the new ones which utilize a more lightweight battery technology.

Thanks, that was very helpfull
So to my understanding only DS series of Ikelite are fully compatable with ttl of digital cameras
Any other brads available with ttl for digital cameras and cord for ikelite housing?
