While I’ve visited Digideep for many years, I haven’t posted many photos or many forum posts.  This is a great web site for divers and underwater photography enthusiasts.  I started taking photos with an Olympus 4040, and because I don’t read instructions, needless to say I had a lot of frustration!  Anyway, every time I look at photos from the talented people who post on this site, I aspire to be better...and realize that there is tremendous talent out there.  Have any of you thought of submitting to the GLobal Photography contest where winners are shown at the museum in London?  I go see that exhibit every year, and I know that some of you would win if you did enter!

Hey Holly,

welcome from me too.

About the contest. The competition is quite hard and the all judgement
is in most cases subjective. So we will see, but we are preparing us
to enter some of our images in these contest.

I’m still a bit puzzled which contest you mean, because I was thinking of
the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest.

/lars

Welcome Holly! smile

This is indeed a great site with very nice pictures and brings us a platform for amateur photographers to show your pictures and get updated about the latest and greatest gear, techniques and contest.
Give it up for Andi & Lars! Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

Wow!  Thanks for the warm welcome all!

Lars had it right, but it is interesting that the competition is also owned by BBC Wildlife Magazine and the Natural History Museum, so perhaps it is one and the same.  I just confirmed my trip to London over TG and can’t wait to see what wins this year’s contest.

Andreas, I will definitely post a photo or two for critique.  That would be extremely helpful, as most of it is just guessing on my part so far.  I have been lucky to have some magnificent opportunities, and also unlucky enough to have a camera setting wrong so that I didn’t capture what I wanted in the instant it presented itself.

I am headed back to Utila in August...maybe another whale shark encounter!  Any suggestions on diving in the Mediterranean area?  I will only have 3-4 days there in November.

Thanks again!
Holly

Mediterranean see is pretty nice, If you’re looking for big wrecks, go to Malta, Gozo. If you want to see some fine species of Nudibranches and big groupers, be sure to visit Medas islands in Spain.
cheers,
Jaap

Hi Holly,

I would also recommend Malta / Gozo. I had 2 1/2 days there a couple years ago, if you want I could send you my dive plan (6 dives incl. 1 night dive, 1 tunnel dive and 3 wreck dives) on what to do there. I think I still have the Excel-file someplace. So, if you decide to go there and dive on your own, just send me a PM and I can mail it to you.
I have some pics on my hp , the desriptions of the spots are in German, but the Pictures are in English too cheese The quality is not the best though, because I flooded my strobe there right on the second dive mad

Oh, and welcome to the forum smile

Regards, Marc
