Hence, I would like to ask :- what are the required accessories to buy ? I am using G7 and WP-DC11. Another question, what is Z-adaptor ?

Hi

You will need:
- a means of positioning the strobe relative to the camera.  This is normally done using a tray and handle, and an arm system.  The tray is generally a bracket that the camera housing bolts on to, and the handle (surprisingly enough) provides you with something to hold on to the whole thing with.  The handle is either bolted to the tray, or is physically part of the tray.  The arm system is typically two solid segments with an ‘elbow’ joint in the middle.  The arm system usually attaches to the top of the handle, but can in some cases attach to a point on the tray.  It depends on the make of system, and the type of system you choose.

- a means of synchronising the strobe with the camera’s flash.  The z240 can be synchronised using either a fiber optic cable that transmits the light from the camera’s flash, or an electric sync cord.  Because the WP-DC11 does not have a bulkhead for a strobe sync cord, you will have to use the fiber optic cable option.  Sometimes this is included with the strobe, sometimes not.  Inon utilise a system where the visible light of your camera’s flash is blocked by a special stick on filter that allows non-visible light to get to the fibre optic cable, to trigger the strobe, but prevents visible light going towards your subject and causing backscatter.  An alternative is black tape on the inside of the housing, with a small hole to allow light to hit the fibre optic cable.

The Z adaptor is an adaptor that attaches to the strobe itself and has a ball at the end of a short arm, for attachment to an arm system - in other words it is how you attach the strobe to the arm system.  Have a look at:  Z-adaptor details.

Something to bear in mind when looking at arm systems is that not all arm systems from different manufacturers are compatible with each other, although some are.  You need to check that adaptors are available to attach the arm system to the strobe, and to the tray/handle if you are mixing manufacturers.  You can of course, make it simpler by buying tray/handle, strobe and arm system from the same manufacturer.  It depends on how much research you want to do!  If you are looking at a combination that you’re not sure will work, just ask about it on this forum:  someone is almost certain to have tried it before.

In case you haven’t found it yet, the Inon America website has good information on the Z240 strobe.

Hope that helps

Graham
