Hi,
I’m trying to use two Sea & Sea YS-110 with an Olympus 7070 in a PT-027.

In the kit that I bought there are fiber optic cables include to fire the YS-110 as a slave to the built in flash, this works fine as long as I us “normal” flash mode on the camera, here comes my problem:

I want to be able to use the YS-110 strobes when the camera is in “super macro mode”. The 7070 disables the internal flash when in super macro modem but it’s possible to manually set the camera in “slave flash mode” then fires a “light flash”, just meant to trigger other systems (just what I’m looking for). The problem is that this flash pules is not intense enough to trigger the YS-110…

Before the YS-110 strobes I had a Ikelite DS-125 with a #4100.5 slave sensor, that did not have any problems with picking up the Olympus flash. Is there a converter so that I could connect the Ikelite sensor to the “Sea & Sea 5-pin connector” on one of the YS-110 strobes?

Thanks,
// Magnus;

Dear Marcus, welcome to DIGIDEEP.com and letting us know about your problem.

What I can imagine is that in “super macro mode” the 7070 does not emit a preflash.
Have you tried to figure that out? In that case the YS-110 just needs to have a
different setting to understand whats going on.

Usually just a very light signal is enough to trigger a slave.
You can even use the firestone of a lighter to test-ignite strobes.

Thanks Andi!

My old DS-125 I could trigger with a normal lighter, but I have not been successfully when trying that on the YS-110 (either on Manual1 or Manual2).

Hi Magnus,

you should in depth consult your manual of the YS-110 !
You have to put it in S-TTL mode as far as I remember.

In order to use TTL with the YS-110 you will need a TTL compatible camera and housing.

You cannot trigger TTL using a fiber optic cable.

I had 2 YS-110 until recently.

Switch to the Inon Z240

Hi Tankado, I cannot confirm the information.
I have tested the YS-110 with sTTL (optical) and
they worked great with my EOS 5D on a Hugy housing.

Andi

Your Hugy does it not use a 5 pin sync cord?

optical cable is use for point and shoot not dSLR housing.

Hi again,…

I used my other TTL-Strobe and kept the YS-110 in sTTL to be triggered
as a slave. We also tested it on a 400D housing from Hugyfot. There it
is possible to flip up the internal strobe in the housing and connect fibre
optics through a small window for the internal camera strobe.

INON Housings have a similar (optical) connector that allows this.

Andi

That is fascinating....

I should tell that to the person that purchased my YS-110.

Cheers

You’ve won a lot of picture of the week.

I finally got the YS-110 to work with my 7070 in super macro mode.

The internal flash is set to “Save” and power is set to “+2.0” (less and the strobe does not trigger), the strobe is set to “Manual 2"…

Thanks for all the input.
