Dear Everybody

this is my first post on digideep, seems to be a great site smile

i have a question, i have the Canon IXUS 75/ SD 750
anyway when i take picture with the highest resolution (7.1MP) the size of each photo is about 3.5MB
but the strange thing is if i write click on the photo and click edit it opens with paint, without changing anything or resizing, i save it with the same extension and the strange thing is it’s about 500Kb
i went to the properties of the picture it was exactly the same as the original, same resolution, same bit depth, same everything.
is it like a better compression or what?
i don’t want to be reducing the quality but i need to know why this happends

thanks alot smile

Welcome to digideep smile

You may have set it to save as a smaller JPEG (or with higher compression than what was shot, there are different levels of JPG compression) so even though the size and the rest have not changed, the compression scheme has.  You should check to see what options you can use for saving and setting the compression.

You could also save to a non-lossy Codec such as .tif and use that version (after adjustments are made) as a Master to work from to make copies for the Web, Email, etc.

Which Paint are you using?

I thought there was an option for some other formats

You may want to look at some other photo editing software down the road, FWIW there are free software packages out there that may be better for you, GIMP is pretty popular and a nice app.  Definately give it a whirl
