Hi all

Just wondering. I bought a new Canon WP-DC12 housing for my Canon A-570IS.
I removed the O-ring and went to a bearings shop to ask if a similar standard o-ring is available.
The standard o-ring size is 0,5 mm thicker, so, installed in the housing, should need to compress it a lot endangering the housing.

Does any one have experience with a standard O-ring or should I buy an original Canon spare O-ring ?

Hi emoreira,

I would not dare to do what you suggested.

You are trying to save money on the
wrong end and might flood your camera.

You say your housing is new.  Presumably you are trying to get a spare o-ring for the future?  You should find that the o-ring will last at least 1 year.  I have housings that are more than three years old still on the same o-ring as they started with.  Care and maintenance after each day’s diving can go a long way to preserving the o-ring.  The main thing is to keep it clean, use the manufacturer’s recommended silicone lubricant on it (sparingly), take it out of the housing seal when not in use so it is not continually under pressure, and if you are worried about the o-ring drying out, store it in a plastic zip lock bag.

Like Andi, I would not try to get a ‘standard’ o-ring instead of a Canon one.
