Hi

I am looking for some help , I am newish to DSLR , I have a E-620 with 14-42
lens and want to get it underwater ( I know I need a PT-E06) But i would like
some advice about Ports.
I have read a lot of forums and reviews but still a bit lost .
I want a PORT for the 14-42 lens BUT in the near future I want to maybe something
better and a MACRO lens (50mm sounds good from what I have read) , The question
is which PORT is best / should I get there seems to be a ATHENA dome and of
course the Olympus PPO-E05 port , I don’t want 5 lens with 5 ports I want the most
Versatile port that can be used for 2+ lenses I am aware that the athena is more
expensive(thats OK) is better suited.
There is also a lot written about Diopters/ extension rings/wet woody Lens are
any of these useful with either port with the 14-42 lens or (my future 50mm macro lens)

Last thing is the Olympus UFL-2 flash any good ??

thanks all for the help evething is helpful

Hey Mark,

You need at least two different ports for macro and wide angle. For wide angle
and fish eye you will need the athena dome port and for macro you need a flat
port. The macro lenses will hardly work with the athena dome port. If you try a
wide angle lense or even fisheye under a flat port you will get very bad distortions.
I’m not even sure if the camera will focus.

ciao Lars

Hi Lars

Yes I was aware I needed a seperate port for WA ans Macro , But will the athena Dome 14-42 work with a few other lenses also ( in the future if I get the 14-54 or 12-60 for example)
and is The Athena Dome port Better for 14-42 etc that the Olympus PPO-E05 what benifits does one have over the Other ??

Thanks Mark

Hey Mark,

I do not have any experiences with the Olmypus or Athena ports. The dome ports work quite well
within ranges. So i guess using the 14-42 and 14-54 should be possible.

I use my dome port with my 10-17mm sigma fisheye lense and my 17-40mm Canon wide angle lense.
Although the 17-40mm lense creates some distortition it is still acceptable. You might need to add
extensions rings depending on the size of the lense.

As for the quality I can’t really say anything to the athena vs. PP0-E05.

ciao Lars

thanks mark,

It was an awesome experience..

I used the Canon 10D at that time with the 17-40mm lense and a domeport.
