Hi dbs…

welcome @ digideep - I´m not using a monitor under water, but why should there be an exception ?

The wavelength of the colors without external lighting is under the influence of the depth and the
extinction/absorption affects -imho- even displays. Without any other source of light your camera won´t
see more than your eye.

hi frank,,,
thank u for ur reply,,
ur right,,,the monitor is under the same conditions,,but it has lights behind its screen,,i think it should not be effected,,,if so ,,how deos underwater videographers record their scenes,,if they cannot see well defined subjects,,,
u cannot illuminate a diver crossing a reef,,or a wreck,,
do u think the same issue is found also with any brandname monitor and housing package???

I think the answer is simple, no light - no color.

U should keep in mind that the most (professional) reef scenes are extreme wide-angle and
the distance of the subjects is significant shorter than u might think.

Hi,

Do not believe the colors you preceive during a dive !
When using a red filter sometimes also people get the impression they their images will be red and they remove it the external redfilter underwater. Don’t do it ! The colors will be right !

If colors all become greenish at dept this can be because indeed your images do not have colors anymore.
A red filter only compensates for the loss of red up to around 15m depth. Deeper it’s not possible to get full colors only with a red filter ! A solution can be adjusting manually your white balance !

Out of experience also this can ask some try outs.
When adjusting white balance at 30m I get perfect colors if I also use a redfilter.

In a depth of 5 to 15 meters I do not use the redfilter as with manual white balance the reds in the images are to dominant ! So in these depth I adjust white balance but don’t use a red filter.

dear danny,,the problem is not what the camera is seeing===(red filter ,,white balance and stuff),,,,,,,it is about the display on the external monitor,,,the monitor has its own light ,,why it is loosing the various colors at depth???
if i check the camera view finder inside the housing, i see good results,,only on the external monitor i am facing the problem,
is it a battery problem ???what kind of monitor do you have on ur housing ???

That’s something very strange and weird !

I have a monitor but I don’t use it anymore as I find it to bulky !
I’m so used to work with my viewfinder now !!

Never heard of this problem !!!???
