10 feet is ridiculous
this much money for a shell that won't even take your camera to the deep end of a pool is crazy. Very frustrating, since all the other Canon shells go to more than 100 ft., which is more than enough for anyone with a basic open-water license.
|
Why only 10ft?
The SD300 looks like a great little camera. I was thinking about upgrading/replacing my S300 (3yr old 2 Megapixel) with waterproof case (100ft), but since can't even get to 10ft it would be pretty useless for SCUBA diving.

I love this for the beach
I bought my new camera wishing to take it to the beach. Buying the weather case was only to keep the moisture out and not for deep water swimming. It has worked out beautifully and highly recommend it for "on top" water picture taking like in the rain.
|
Perfect for kayaking and camping
Definitely worth the money! I'm able to get some sweet outdoor pics of places that I had previously been reluctant to take my camera. No more worries in rainy weather or choppy water.

does everything it claims
you can do everything with this case. All camera functions are accessible. Its great fun to have camera floating with you in pool to get fun pics of kids, no worries about sand at beach, spray on boat wakeboarding or melting snow on camera while snowboarding. a must if you want to take your camera on the fun trips

great underwater case
i have the sd400 wiht this case. i bought it especially for my trip to cabo for snorkeling. couldnt be happier. i was able to use all the features of my camera, including taking videos underwater++ the bad part of it was that its only rated for 3 meters. i took it a little deeper than that, it was still water proof. this product is a great addition to your camera, if you are a water person. the buoyancy is perfect. give it a tug and it will sink or leave it alone and it will just float.

Gasket Stretched
I bought the SD300 camera and underwater case for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to French Polynesia. The camera is AWESOME. I have spectacular underwater pictures from two weeks of snorkeling off of Bora Bora and Moorea. I would clean the case each night as the very fine sand would get in the grooves and stick to everything. This meant I had to grease the gasket after cleaning the sand off of it. Two weeks of carefully greasing the gasket caused it to stretch so the case no longer closes. The case wasn't useable for the last few days of our trip. I've been searching off and on for replacement gaskets to no avail. Today I sent Canon an e.mail. I'm surprised these aren't easy to find, and since it wasn't hard to stretch it, I'm surprised they didn't provide a spare gasket. Raise the price 20 cents and give us a few spares!
I used Moisture Muncher capsules inside the case to prevent fogging. I assume they worked, I had NO problems with moisture. The little capsules fit in the case no problem and turn purple if full of moisture (also helpful to indicate your case is leaking!) Mine never leaked, not even a trace. I would get 3-4 days of use out of a capsule before it looked purple to me.
You can NOT see the viewscreen at all in daylight while snorkeling. I just pointed and shot and hoped it worked. You can't hear the camera's fake 'click', either, so a lot of shots I THOUGHT I made didn't actually take. A lot of shots I thought were perfect were off center. None were really out of focus, though. It was best in perfectly clear, calm shallow water where the subject is close to you. It was more difficult trying to zoom in to something 20' away as you can't see it on the viewscreen and any movement (bobbing up and down, left and right) makes the far-away object move out of your shot just as you push the button. These probably are not specific to Canon or the case, though.
Great camera. Great case. I had fun using it. The pictures were stunning. Need spare gaskets!

Not for SD450
I recently received this case as a gift for use with my SD400 and I expect it will be great. However, a co-worker was comparing it to her SD450 we quickly came to the conclusion that the case buttons would not line up with the camera controls on the SD450. A check on the Canon web site shows the AW-DC50 is the correct case for the SD450. I would be really upset if I read the title on this product and bought it for an SD450 only to find that it was not the correct item.
|
NOT for the Canon SD450!
I just purchased this item for my upcoming trip to Maui. Amazon claims that it will work for the Canon SD450. To be honest, yes it can BUT it's not ideal. The buttons are located to line up with the Canon SD300, a vastly different camera than the SD450. You can put the SD450 in the case, turn it on, zoom with it, and take the pictures, but if you want to use ANY of the other features (like turning the flash on and off- which is important underwater) you can't use them because they aren't lined up properly for the SD450. Do NOT buy this case for that camera. Buy the AW-DC50 instead. Don't make my mistake because I'm going to Maui in less than a week and I have to pay out the nose to make sure the correct case gets here in time.

Canon All-Weather camera housing
I recieved the product in record time and it was properly packaged. Have not used it yet and will be giving it a try in approx. 3 weeks when I arrive in Hawaii. The only thing which was dissapointing is that there is no underwater housing available for my Canon digital camera. It seems like all the other models from Canon DO offer a true underwater housing. Not sure why this camera was sort of singled out to be only a all weather model. They do say that it has been tested to depths of 10 feet and I will certainly be putting it to the test. Thank you Amazon you have never let me down.

DO NOT BUY THIS CASE! The 'O' RING IS NO GOOD!
After using the AW-DC30 for less than ONE WEEK the'O' ring gasket which makes the waterproof seal had stretched and WAS NOT LONGER USABLE. The case comes with only one 'O' ring and replacements are NOT READILY AVAILABLE which means your $100+ case can now be thrown in the garbage! Incredibly bad design by Canon.

great for in the pool
I just recently purchased this for cruise in the Bahamas. I got great pictures and videos swimming with dolphins. I also took great videos of my daughter swimming in the pool.the camera stayed absolutaly dry inside, i do recommend putting a small packet of silica in for condensation,it sure helps keep the lens clean. It's easy to use and set up. it keeps the sand away too!!
all in all I love this case,it was worth every penny!!!

It just makes life easier.
This case does everything it is advertized to do. I know ya can't scuba with it, but I'm not a diver so it doesn't bother me. I live in Hawaii, home to the wettest place on Earth, and I use this thing almost daily. It is very nice to not have to worry about your camera. It effectively keeps out the rain, the ocean, the sand (that's a really important one) and everything else. Its fun to watch all the stupid tourists trying to run down the beach, snap their pics, and then run away before they get wet, or wading into a waterfall knee deep to snap some pics. With this case, you can just jump right in and not worry. Trust me, taking pics of those funny tourists from the water is a fun hobby of mine.

plastic bag is cheaper, same performance
I don't get dropping $100.00 bucks for a housing that's only good to 3 meters. Get real. Particularly when you can get one good to 30.5 meters for twice the price.

great so far, but may have condensation issue
i've had this product for about a month and have used it to go kayaking, whitewater rafting, and snorkling. It keeps water out of the camera chamber nicely, but after rafting, i noticed a small amount of water had entered the top part where the buttons are. It didn't affect the operation of the camera, and no water or condensation was found in the main chamber. I left it open for a few days and it dried out. I did not have this problem while snorkling, which suggests that it may have been due to the pressure of having the camera wedged between the lifejacket and my chest...probably not a good idea for the camera, but i didn't want to lose it!
Other items of note -
- the neck strap that it comes with is good and adjustable
- it's quite small, but roomy enough inside for a small anti-moisture packet
- Operating it is just as easy as without the case, with the exception of the optical viewfinder, which cannot be used
- case comes with a clip-on diffuser for the flash, which works nicely as the plastic case distorts the light without it
- the steel pin that forms the hinge of the case is already rusted...could be due to the salt water, though i was careful to rinse it in freshwater after each use; again though, won't affect the operation of the camera, nor the integrity of the waterproof seal
A possible improvement for Canon to consider would be the option of adding a clip-on lens cap to protect the surface from scratches

Great Little Case, Performed Better then Expected
I recently bought this case for my Canon SD-300. I was a little nervous when i saw that the max depth was 10ft but it's the only case for this camera so I thought I would give it a shot. I took it on a Caribbean cruise with me and let me just say WOW. Within 5 minutes I had applied a thin layer of grease to the waterproof ring, slipped in the camera, closed it up and jumped in the water. The underwater pictures came out amazing. I even went scuba diving down to 65ft with no problem, besides being a little nervous. The underwater movies also came out amazing. Sometimes so clear it's hard to tell I was in the water. The day we hiked up to the waterfall, everyone was jealous to see me taking pictures under the mist. I have around 100 incredible pictures from this trip that I never could have gotten without this case.
|
only for 3m/10ft under the surface.
if you are shoting kid at the swiming pool, it's ok. but,if you are the open water diver, please don't buy it. i try it yesterday, it will not work after 10m/33ft, it will show the red screen and count down timer, it scare me. and i miss a lot of shot for yesterday's dive. it's really disappointed to me.

Great for fun in the sun!
I took this case with me to my trip to New Zealand and it allowed me to take amazing pictures of rafting and cave tubing. If I didn't have this case I would have missed out on amazing shots. It's a great way to protect your camera from sand as well. I loved it so much I actually bought one for my sister as well. It is a great investment for anyone that doesn't want to worry about their camera getting ruined and also wants to take amazing underwater pictures and videos!

Great fun for Photos and Video underwater
Works great , no fogging up , I put the camara in the fridge before I use it, or if you come from an airconditioned environement no problems. If you get grease on the lens wash it with liquid soap , else you will have water drops that dont rinse and they will blur the photo.
My kids took hundereds of fotos of fishes .. never had one before. Now that you can film as well I needed to upgrade to 1GB chip from my 512MB . Can do all the programing functions without openening the case.

Works perfectly - would highly recommend it!
We bought this for a "swimming with the dolphins" excursion on our honeymoon cruise and it worked perfectly! It was easy to set up, easy to use, and easy to clean. I only wish we had more opportunity use it, but the pictures we did get were great!

Worthwhile for any high-moisture activities
This case worked very well, without adding a lot of weight or bulk to the camera. I took it snorkeling (watertight to 12 feet), white water rafting and snow skiing, and it has worked well. All controls are accessible, it doesn't fog up if you follow acclimatization tips and it keeps a valuable camera dry. The only thing to watch is that you keep the wrist strap out of the way when putting the camera into the case, so that you don't crimp the seals.

Canon AW-DC30 All Weather Case
I used the product at Victoris Falls and was very pleased. At this time I have not gone under water with it..
|
Great Underwater Case
We took the case to the Barrier Reef for 6 snorkeling trips. The camera worked wonderfully. There was no leakage, fog during all 6 uses. The only thing is that since it was bright outside, there was a lot of glare and made it hard to see the LCD screen, but that is more of a camera issue than the case.
I would recommend this product over any disposable underwater camera. Worth every penny!

Works great and takes awesome pictures
I'm happy with my purchase. Works a Explained!

The best purchase...
Oh my gosh..I'm shocked!! After reading reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to order this product or not..I had considered buying the Olympic under water camera but read that the picture quality was nothing to brag about..Well, this product can't get enough rave!! We just returned home from a trip to Mexico and we own the Canon SD400, we took this case as we knew we would snorkel and also to have around the pool area. This took the best pictures I could ever ask for. We also took video because there was a small cave that you could swim under so I got on one side and recorded my husband coming out the other side. The picture quality was so good, you couldn't even tell that the case was on the camera. We had so many people comment about it at our resort and they were going home and ordering it for their camera. THANK YOU CANON FOR ANOTHER GREAT PRODUCT!!

The case works...
The case works very well and is very easy to use. The only time using it becomes annoying is sometimes the zoom knob doesn't go right back to center and than all other buttons don't work, but than you just jiggle the knob and your good to go.
The case does not go very deep, but since when were the SD200, SD300, and SD400 the most professional cameras in the world. If I were to go diving with a camera in a reef I'm bringing something more serious. The case is perfect for beach goers, family pool time, and my application Kayakers. The case does float which makes water use very worry free, but it isn't boyant enough to annoy divers or snorkalers. I've also used it at sporting events where it was raining. I'm the only one who had pictures...

Works perfect.
I "tested this out" in our pool and it works like a champ.
I don't plan on doing any "Jacque Custo" style deep sea exploration with this so the 10 foot limit is just fine for me.
This ends up being the perfect way to keep my camera safe while we are at the beach too...
It works great.
My wife and I are going to Tahitti and will be using this there and I feel confident there will be no problems.

Great Case but be careful!!
The case is fantastic and if you are careful when inserting the camera it does everything you need. The mistake people make is they close the case too quickly and it pinches the o-ring. Feed it slowly as you go when closing the back and you will see it sit into the groove. Use the grease every time out (I even put a very small silicoln packet similar to what you find in electronics packaging inside to help trap any humidity that might condense in the colder water).
I have used it in the Bahammas, Florida, Pools and just in the rain. Great product!
|
Great case, be careful with the o ring
The case work great as long as you meticulously clean it after every use. I use it for five days straight, soaking it water in the sink for hours after every use and using the silicon lubricants. The o-ring does stretch after some use and if not careful part of the ring can pop out when you shut the case
